Chiropractor query

I had my second DS back in February and he was a massive 10lb 6oz. He's now an 8 month monster weighing about 12 kg and unsurprising with having to lift and carry him all the time I have developed some lower back pain. A friend recommended a local chiropractor so I went along today. He laid me on my back on the bed and lifted my legs up and stretched then in different directions and prodded my pelvis a bit. At no point did he touch my back. He then proclaimed that I had a lower bulging disc and that my pelvis is misaligned, my core is shot to pieces and explained ii probably need up to a year of treatment to fix it! He then said I needed to stop lifting up my 8 month old which explained was impossible as DH is out the house for 10 hours a day and I can't just leave the baby screaming on the floor.

I can't help feeling I've been a bit had?? Can he really diagnose a problem with a few stretches and prods? And without actually touching my back?? I think I'm going to get a second opinion but just thought I'd put it out there to see if any chiropractors/those with back pain history can shed any light on whether this sounds normal???

As someone who has used chiropractors for nearly forty years I have to say this is a bit weird. They do usually look at your back. They also get you to walk around the room, sit on the examining couch facing away from you and various other things.
They usually take a very detailed medical history before doing any examining.
They usually work from the neck down although not all chiros do this.
If you have a slipped disc you would really be in agony and not able to do much. If it was not so bad you may well have sciatica, it all depends exactly which disc is playing up.
"your Core is shot?" and your pelvis is misaligned? To be honest most people have a slightly misaligned pelvis and there may well be some tightness in your spinal muscles to one side, but I have a horrible feeling this guy is actually not being a decent Chiro and is looking to make more money out of youy than he should. Look him up on line, see who is recommended by the British Chiropractic Association, via this chiropractic-uk.co.uk/ or you can look at this www.united-chiropractic.org/ This will also tell you what to expect and is kind of an outsider medical view but nonetheless balanced. Best of luck and all my sympathy with your situation.

I started off seeing chiropractors for my lower back problem. I always felt it was a quick crack and a crunch in 15 mins followed by see you in a few days. I always felt it was rather Monophysite for old rope. One was so rough he bruised me and I stopped going.

Swapped to an osteopath who used a combination of massage and manipulation and I felt if they asked me to make another appt then I knew it was because I needed it and never the same week as he said my back needs time to settle. I am also hyper mobile so the wham bam approach never worked for me as the muscles were not loosened first.

I have seen one chiro on holiday once who was fab but she also used the same combination of massage and manipulation.

Recently, I went to an osteopath for the first time as the only chiro for miles around here in France was on holiday. It was weird and not so effective, but still expensive €50 for one session, but then at least she took my history and stuff.
Cannot say I felt relief as immediately as I know I would have done from a chiro. Eventually got my shoulder back but cannot help but be unsure as to whether it was time or her treatment that did it.
