Very abnormal CRP blood result. Can anyone advise please? Panicking!

I had a private blood test and it came back with an abnormally high CRP result of 13.2 mg/L.

Can anyone advise what this is exactly? I've been really stupid, health wise. I've become 4 stone overweight, I have an iron deficiency, a vitamin D deficiency, cholesterol issues ... Jesus! All because I have stuffed my face with cake I should think - my diet is absolutely atrocious. I'll be changing it ASAP

Anyway I'm most concerned about this CRP result. I don't feel ill and I don't have any illnesses - bar fear about to keel over with a stroke or heart attack it appears! I am not recovering from an infection either.

I'm waiting for a call back from my GP (this was a private test) but while I wait, can anyone advise if I need to panic as much as I am doing about this result?

Thanks

That’s very mildly abnormal and of almost no clinical significance at all. Don’t worry. Might just be you’ve had a virus or something.

CRP is a very non-specific marker and 13.5 isn’t very high. Clearly without knowing anything more specific about you no one here is going to be able to advise you any further. The person who ordered the test should be the one advising you as they must have had something in mind when they requested it.

That's not high at all. Anything above 130 ish is high and would possibly require treatment with antibiotics depending on clinical symptoms. Try not to worry.

It is a sign of inflamation but that level is not high, mine went to 75 when I had pneumonia. A few days of the right antibiotics brought it back to normal.

I would be more concerned about cholesterol.

Don’t worry about it. The range for crp is 0-approx 4 or 5 hundred.

Thank you all

My doctor rang me ten mins ago and basically also reassured me. And then told me off for using a private testing company - which I now understand I was stupid to do. He said without clinical context, it was mad to have done it

He also reminded me that 3 weeks ago I was prescribed antibiotics for a urine infection. He thinks by repeating the bloods at the surgery in 3 weeks time, the CRP result will be fine again.

He wasn't concerned about my cholesterol as such when I told him the result of that. He said it was very mildly out of kilter and of course I know what I need to do there to sort that out

He said all results were fine - ish - and lifestyle tweaks would help.

I think this may be a lesson for me in not using private blood testing companies Blush

It's a non-specific marker inflammation which could be due to anything from a bit of lurgy to an autoimmune condition flaring to an allergic reaction.

In isolation its a pretty useless test. It's usually used in conjunction with other tests and a clinical picture to see if a patient is responding to treatment or getting worse.

Thanks @SnuggyBuggy - I've calmed down now and I'm feeling pretty stupid tbh

I didn't stop to think that it was almost meaningless with zero context and actually not particularly high. The result was given to me in RED with the words ' highly abnormal'
