I'm 39. Had second baby 4 years ago. Went on tge implant shortly after and started periods at approx 18 months.
Periods got heavier, increased in frequency to every 2-3 weeks and lasted 10 ish days.
8 months ago implant out and copper coil in. Periods continue to occur every 2-3 weeks, for 9-11 days. Light for most days, 2/3 days of being heavy.
Currently on day 7 and exhausted and fed up and tearful because this is fucking ridiculous.
Had a scan for fibroids - i have several but the consultant says they aren't causing the silly bleeds.
Booked in for a blood test to chrck thyroid, pcos and peri menopause.
Been prescribed tranexmic (sp?) acid which i haven't been able to pick up yet.

Help. Should i be asking the dr for any other checks? What else can i do to help them?
I had the copper coil in pre babies and it never affected mel like this. In fact it made my periods shorter and lighter. I am loathe to get the thing taken out because i find it really hard to cope with people investigating my uterus.

If you're anaemic it can actually you make your periods heavier. That's what happened with me. Ask for a blood test.

Nrpmum - what were your other symptoms?

Well. I had suffered meningitis 2 months before, so thought it was recovery from that but I was seriously exhausted. Slept for a good 4 hours in a day and then 8/9 at night. Permanently hungry. When I tried to run I kept getting injuries. I had terrible memory, and although it has improved it's not what it was.

Ouch, meningitis must have been horrible.
I've not got quite the same symptoms. I hope the blood test shows something.

I think it's because you're 39. I had the copper coil in-between children 1-2-3. The last time it was put it, my periods were awful (similar to how you describe). DH had the snip and I had it removed and they went back to normal.

I wondering how much the coil has to do with it. But iirc the coil is meant to work by thickening your uterine lining and my last ultrasound said my uterine lining was normal.
I'm also loathe to have it taken out bc I'm not sure what other contraception i could use.

I had copper could from early 20s but by 40 my periods were like yours. A Mirena coil solved all my problems.
