fruit juice and tooth decay? What do you give your child?

dd has many allergies and so to keep things simple I give her pure fruit juices rather than other made up drinks you can buy. She has only started drinking it recently to my joy as she constantly suffers constipation due to not drinking enough water!I have been diluting it by half with water but am worried about tooth decay. What do you give your children reguarding fruit juices. How much should it be diluted do you know?

Half & half with water sounds fine. Try getting her to use a straw - it's supposed to make decay less likely because the drink bypasses the teeth IYSWIM.

Mine always drank fruit juice or diluted juice, & they are 13 now and still no fillings!

I give DS very dilute tea - about 1/4 beaker tea, made up with 3/4 water. He loves it. Sugar free and lots of liquid on a warm day.

I also let him very dilute fruit juice with meals, as there'll be sugar on his teeth from the food anyway. Although, thinking about it it's the combination of acid & sugar that is particularly bad with fruit sugars, so I guess brushing is also important too.
