Got a call Wednesday for a hospital appointment for Thursday afternoon.

I got back home from the hospital appointment feeling very despondent.

They did a hearing test which was fine with a minor difference between ears but nothing notable.
The consultant talked to me, got me to move my head around, stand up and close my eyes. Then said I don’t think it’s labrynthitis or Vestibular Neuritis, can’t give you a name for it as not sure what it is and not much else they can do for me. I’ve asked to be referred for an MRI to help rule anything out, so have to wait for that letter to come through. So basically they haven’t got a clue what’s wrong with me. Helpful! No answers, prognosis, help, treatment, if it will resolve itself, nothing.

To be honest he seemed totally nonchalant and very dismissive about the whole thing, there was no offer for further investigation or referrals to anyone else.

Where do I go from here?

Go back to your GP and discuss.

There may be other specialities they can refer you to or even get a second opinion with a different ENT aim a different hospital.

I have had the misfortune to have had many hospital appointments this year. Each time I have seen a consultant and almost all of them have been very abrupt and rude.

Depends on what your symptoms are. My GP sent me to ENT for emergency appointment for suspected labyrinthitis. ENT put the Frenzel goggles on me and then sent me to straight to neurology who sent me for an urgent MRI which revealed nothing significant so decided it was a neuritis probably caused by something viral and would just need to run its course. Took about a month to clear up and I never received a clear diagnosis.
