Bad heartburn! Any advice

I started to get bad heartburn during my second pregnancy and was taking omeprazole for it which seemed to do the trick. Once I had the baby however (6 months ago) the heartburn didn't go away. I get it every few weeks to months . The last time was a few months ago but I got it yesterday, and lasted all day and again this morning, eased off over lunch and now coming back. (I'm not in the UK).
It's a pain under my breast bone and in my back between my shoulder blades. I often feel nauseous and both yesterday and today I vomited. I took an omeprazole first thing this morning but obviously had no effect. Gaviscon not doing anything either. I'm so fed up of it!
Anyone had similar? I'm wondering if it might be gallstones instead. But from what I've read online a gallstone attack only lasts a short time.

have you been to see a doctor OP? they may be able to prescribe something. some people say slippery elm capsules help however I haven't tried it.

Yes I went today and he said I'm doing everything I can at the moment - but told me to up omeprazole to 2 a day. He's also sending me for an ultrasound so I guess that will check my gallbladder.
I'm in so much pain right now I'm just desperate! I want a magic pill to make it go away!

I keep getting heartburn and most commonly it's caused by a stomach bacteria called h pylori. Easily treatable mostly and diagnosed with a stool sample normally within 24 hours. If your dr hasn't sent one off yet I would push for that before going down the route of ultrasounds and more expensive testing especially if you have to pay for it yourself in your county.

I was going to suggest fresh lemon juice mixed with water - no I'm not evil! it does work for heartburn and actually neutralises acid in the stomach even though it's acidic on the tongue.
However, what you describe does sound like gallstones (personal experience and you have my sympathy if it is)
So a scan is the way forward.
Take care

Thanks all - I had a scan today and they found around 20 gall stones! Kind of a relief actually to know. The pain was so bad at times I thought it couldn't just be heartburn.
