I'm sorry if this is in the wrong topic,not really sure where it should be.My dh is diabetic,controlled with tablets.Or i should say he take tablets but sugar levels are always to high.Last time he saw GP there was talk of him going on to injections if his sugar didn't start to come down.Anyway we are just starting to get some kind of sex live back after having last dc.But dh is having afew problems with his man hood.Do you think this is due to the diabetes.Or could it just be me that he just isn't interested in any more,and i'm making excuses for him.

Your DH should consult his GP. Nothing to be embarrassed about in wanting a quality sex life. Diabetes could well be a factor, GP can best judge.

diabetes can cause problems in this department, particularly if he's not well controlled at present

definitely needs to see his gp, does he see diabetic team at hospital?

Thanks IIjkk part of me knows that but the other part is worried that i'm the problem.Dh hasn't said anything to make me think that,just me being insecure.We have been together 22yrs,i'm just worried he doesn't fancy me any more,because i have put on a lot of weight.So i keep thinking is it me or the diabetes.

Diabetes can be a factor in this problem your DH is having. In fact I'm sure that diabetic men can get Viagra free - not that I'm suggesting your DH has got to that stage - but I may be wrong about the free bit.
Definately go to diabetic clinic and get it checked up on, and if his blood sugars are hgih this can also cause other health problems

saralou his GP has a diabetic clinic,but DH hasn't been sent a appointment for that long i can't even remember.

I don't know much anybody knows about diabetes(dh has only known he was diabetic for about 18mths)but his sugar levels are always about 14 - 19.When he first went to GP they were 31.

14- 19 is still quite high though, but people with your DH's type of diabetes often are told they don't need to check their blood sugars every day. I would contact the diabetic clininc and say he needs a check up, bloods etc. it may be that a change to his medication could help and he may not need to go on injections

Thanks saltire i'm going to have a talk to DH tonight and get him down the GP's.His medication has been changed afew times but it hasn't really helped.Perhaps if we can get his sugar levels sorted the other problems will sort themselves.

You are right, high blood sugars can cause a few problems, not just now, but a few years down the line. Even if he does need injections, you may find that it will help regulate his blood sugar levels. i'm a bit surprised that he hasn't had more regular appointments at the diabetic clinic, given that his blood sugars were so high to begin with.

14-19 is way too high still, and thats when problems are caused

definitely get him seen.. can you get an appintment at the diabetic clinic without going through gp (self refer)?

blood sugar in a diabetic should be between 5 and 8 really. this is a problem he shouldn't hide from (and it's true about the viagra )

There could be loads of reasons, low testosterone for instance) please don't think its you, the chances are very good that its not. Could you persuade him to go see your GP?

diabetes causes build up in the veins and arteries I think and impotence is often a side effect of this - there is help available but I'm not sure how successful this is. It is a very common problem and no need for embarrassment.

Thanks both of you.The clinic is held at the GP's he has only ever been to the hospital for the fasting blood test.The rest is done at the GP's with the nurse,who he doesn't like every much.So he doesn't push to go more often.

Well this time you need to be bossy and get him to go. tell him his long term health depends on it. Like I said, some of the problems might not appear till a few years down the line, but that doesn't mean he doesn't need to get it sorted now. Do let us know how he got on

Thanks all.To be honest i have been worried for a while about him.like when he cuts himself it takes weeks to heal,i'm sure it's because his sugar is to high.

if i were you i'd ask about referal to hospital diabetic team.

my mum is type 2 diabetic, and when she was diagnosed she was automatically referred to a consultant... she now gets seen once a year, but initialy was seen a lot more often.

gonna be honest and say that it sounds like your gp isn't treating this very well..

(diabetics are slow healers... be very careful, particularly with any cuts/knocks to the lug)
