Operation cancelled :(

Not happy. Just had a letter this morning and my operation, due this Friday, has been cancelled. No idea when new appointment will be as letter just says to call on Monday.

I am gutted and furious too. Been on the waiting list since November, and was told it would be 4-6 months. Been longer than that now, and still nothing. I first when to the GPs last June, and that was after months!!!

I am in pain monthly. I have missed way too many days work over the past year due to this. Feel gutted.

And I can't see there being another appointment any time soon. I am on holiday abroad end July/beginning Auguist so that rules out much of July (can't fly for a while after for some reason, don't know why) and also a lot of August too (because of holiday).

Sorry to hear that - can you get them to refer you to another hospital with a closer date? Or how about asking your GP to fix you one up himself using the NHS choice computer booking system?

These waiting list things are a total con IMHO, I was on a waiting list but according to their figures only for five days, because they only start counting after you've seen the consultant and been to see the preoperative assessment service!!!!

An operation I was due to have was cancelled. I didn't find out until I went for my pre-op assessment. I'd had to ring the day before to confirm that I was still going and they didn't say anything then. The letter to cancel my op arrived a day later. It had been sent 2nd class. Did someone not realise when typing the letter that they were cancelling an appointment that was in 2 days time and therefore should have rung me, or at least sent the letter 1st class. Hulababy I really feel for you as it is so frustrating to have it cancelled when you've prepared yourself for a particular time. Phone on Monday, give them an earful and then contact your GP to see if you can do what whomovedmychocolate suggested.

Hope you get this sorted quickly. Also if you are able to you may be able to get it done quicker if you say you can be available for cancellations.

Unfortunately there isn't another hospital I can go to. And the consultant is the only one who will/can do it. He is an expert in the field, so kind of reluctant to see if anyone else either, as I do know he s the key person I need. Not sure if he does private work either though but may have to start looking into it.

Wait is longer as for some reason he will only do the op on a Friday.

If he will only do the op on a Friday it's possible the rest of the week he is doing private work.

He appears to do his private work on Saturdays. Have phones out of curiousity. They could fit it in as early as this Saturday. Fixed fee inc his fee, hospital fee and anaethatiss fee is £2818. Just don't have the spare cash for that right now though as have other expensises going on.
