Nit discussion on Jonathan Ross on Saturday.

I was listening to this and it sounded bizarre. He was talking about his kids getting the nits vacuumed off their heads. Not by him but at a salon/clinic or something.

Has anyone heard of this? Also, should I stock up on nit treatment before DS starts school? I use a fine tooth comb on his hair once a week. What's the best prevention?

DD has, so far, never had them - she started school last September and was at nursery prior to that. However we do use a tea tree shampoo for every hair wash, and an tea tree conditioner. Whilst DD is in the bath, omce a week, with the conditioner in, I will use a nit comb and give her hair a really good comb through. Just trying to prevent them I guess. Not sure if it will work, but it is a start.

I have to admit, I've thought of hoovering the kids heads in sheer desperation to get rid of the damn things - do you reckon it would work??!

He said there were loads came off his sons head. They have to go for 3 treatments. I tried googling nit treatment but didn't find any link to hoovering.

Was it the Licesnatcher ? Doesn't look like a salon treatment though.

During my googling I also found an American product that's going to be available soon called a Lousebuster, which is like a hairdryer and dries out the nits.

Haven't had nits in our family for years, but am dreading the day my DD (long curly hair) gets them!
