I am not surprised btw I used to have ME but have been in remission for years

However currently I eat/drink

Cereal with lots of sugar & s/s milk
Lunch tuna mayo sandwich or baked potato & butter or stir fry
Tea Mince & mash or scampi & chips or toad in the hole

Plus fruit and maybe 4/5 biscuits or chocolate

Tea with lots of sugar (about 5/7 a day)
Over 2l lemonade

And I am not losing or gaining weight

I think I broke it

I keep telling the Dr - but he says my blood sugar is fine

I think my metabolism is shot

Before I hardly ate anything and put on 6 stone so at least it's my turn atm

just because your body is controling the sugar in your blood does not mean you aren't over consuming.

High sugar intake is bad in other ways, though. Promotes tooth decay and (maybe indirectly) heart disease.

Sugar is empty calories so you may not be getting the vitamins and minerals you need, too.

What about going cold turkey on sugar in tea for a charity cause (fund-raising) cause?

You must be reved up on caffeine, too?!

Ok i have substituted Lemonade with ribena - which is 70 cals less a pint so that's 280 cals over 2 litres

I have cut my tea down to 4 cups

I'll do that for a few days - then dilute the ribena a bit more and maybe reduce the sugar in my tea

Let's see if that is achievable

Don't substitute with Ribena, tis a dental nightmare.

What worse than Lemonade?

For breakfast try a smoothie made with ss milk, a banana, (I throw in a low fat actimel as well), some other fruit and a handful of porridge oats. This satisfies the sweetness and keeps you full for longer.

Swap baked potato for sweet potato (lower GI) and use breads like wholemeal pitta for sanwiches.

i thought bubbles made it worse?

Would skip both tbh, and dilute fruit juice, and squash etc (but then I am a dentist ). Joking aside it is better than lemonade (very diluted) but particularly with children we find it quite devastating for teeth (especially if given in a bottle)

Can't do milk - intolerant
Can't do oats - they get eaten - go through - and come out in the same format

Wholemeal is a bit the same - I have about 1 part in 6 for bread - but I can't take anymore

Very dodgy tummy/bowel (that was possibly TMI- sorry)

Ah perhaps a qualified nutritionist would be a better idea then

Or smoothies with soya milk (even without the oats they are filling, but you can add some hemp seeds that have been soaked overnight to add bulk)

Swap the bread for corn thins with various toppings

Well I went to the Dr & got to see the dietician - who was very pleased withmy diet apart from the sugar

But she was worried that mucking about with it would cause too many other problmes

SO I am trying to sort it out gradually myself?

Have your cereal for breakfast but aim for a low sugar one. Go for a plain one like fruit and fibre, sultana bran or weetabix without sugar - maybe add a chopped banana on the top?

Watch your fats so tuna mayo sandwich for lunch fine but don't butter your bread (you really don't notice the difference) and make sure the bread is wholemeal. Baked potato - fin, forget the butter and add a small tin of baked beans.

Mince and mash fine - just be aware of a) what you fry your mince in first. If you have a non stick pan it can be fried with just the juices of the meat fine. and what do you put in your mash? maybe add semi skimmed milk instead of butter.

Scampi and chips - well we won't even go there

and curb your sugar intake - try just plain water it is nice, honest maybe buy a water filter if you feel your tap water has a slight taste. Also you can get some really nice fruit teas. but most squashes and bottles of pop are loaded with sugar and the diet ones are full of aspartame which is a really nasty chemical sweetner.

You will get used to having no sugar but then you won't wake up tomorrow thinking everything tastes better without. But one day you will and when you have some sweetened tea it will taste foul.

Sorry Furball

I have reduced my cholesterol by 10% over the last 12 months - my fats are pretty ok apart from the preprepared stuff (scampi & - once every 3 weeks & garlic mushrooms about half as often - oh & the butter on the baked pot is the only butter used ever)

Water (slightly more worryingly) makes me pass out - has done ever since I had ME

The Dr thinks it is a sort of Osmosis across the stomach membrane & if I drink water the sugar in my blood just passes over into the water in the stomach (apparently it's an anomolly)

Artificial sweetners have been banned in out house ever since I discovered it made my IBS much worse

I think if I was a dog they would shoot me
