Doctor just told me I have this and said it would go away on its own

Did they give you the exercises? That helped me and it went after about 10 weeks.

It can can resolve on its own but that could take forever. You need it diagnosed properly so you know which ear is causing it and then something called the epley manoeuvre needs to be done. This can usually be done in your local audiology or ENT départment, you're looking for a vestibular clinic. Go back to your GP and ask for this, it is so easily treatable. Also without a full balance assessment I'm not sure how it's been diagnosed and other causes ruled out.

If its bbpv rather than labyrinthitis you could do with the epley. Some GPs will do it..its a very simple head manoeuvre..if not I'd find a local physio to do it as you'll be waiting ages to see ent.

You can also find instructions to do the head manoeuvre yourself by asking Dr Google. Had it twice, both times mine resolved within 8ish days doing the m 2-3 times a day - only takes a couple of minutes.

Definitely epley manoeuvre, I had it done the first time at the hospital - audiology dept. Then next fix done by the GP, my husband came along so he knew the procedure, as we were off out sailing for several years. With a reminder from Dr Google he has ‘fixed’ the problem about four times in the last four years. I usually wait about five days to see if it will clear up on its own, it’s happened twice. Dizziness is not good on a boat!

You can feel a little groggy for a few days after the epley has been done. You can tell which side is affect by lying on your side and seeing which side gets dizzy.

During surgery for a previous unrelated op I had my right audio nerve severed, so I always know the problem will be on my left 😂

Thank you. I'll go back to Docs.

I wonder why she didn't mention the epley manoeuvre? She gave me a presecription for anti vertigo/nausea but I'm not really keen on taking tablets.

I'll update.

I have had this for years, it is somewhat better but I had my hair cut yesterday and the leaning back for the wash has set it off again!

I find a 75mg of aspirin a day helpful, I read that it improves blood flow to the inner ear.

I've also had it for years. I just suffer but can't look up or down or lie completely flat without a head spin. Not the best but I've just learnt to live with it and I have a very sympathetic dentist who doesn't put the chair right back 😂.

If I'm particularly bad I take anti sickness tablets and two ibuprofen and it sorts me out.

In the short term try and work out which head movement can set it off. For me it was looking down and to the left ( as if I was looking for crumbs on my chest) and avoid. The other tip is when you have an attack, try not to panic ( difficult I know) keep you head up, and focus your eyes on a point in front off you on the wall. The spinning should settle quite quickly if you do alt you may feel woozy for a while.

It is such a horrible feeling so you have my sympathy. I can say it does settle down though. I was referred twice for the epley manoeuvre but each time they wouldn't do it as they couldn't get my eyes to flicker. Took about six months to settle although I do live in fear if it returning.
