i had to collect my dd, nearly 9 months, from nursery this morning as she was unwell - very hot, not drinking and seemrd to have lost her voice. she was so unlike her normal chirpy self that i gave her some calpol and took her to the doctors. he said it was croup and maybe inflamed tonsils but she wouldnt let him look properly. he prescribed a one off dose of prednisalone and said to keep up with calpol/nurofen as she had a temp. thing is, we hvae now been home for a few hours, she drank her pm bottle but then vomited it up. she wont take the prednisalone or any nurofen or calpol, and wont drink anything else. she just alternates between dozing in my arms and crying and barking.
sorry for the essay but does anyone know what i should try next?
TIA

If you're worried take her back to the doctor or phone nhs direct. If she's not drinking at all and is vomiting she could become dehydrated. Hope she feels better soon!

Have you tried a syringe for the medicine.
Persevere with any fluids even if she is sick.

thanks. i have tried syringe, spoon and even in a bottle but she just wont. she's usually fine with a syringe.
we dont live in the uk mainland so dont have nhs direct i dont think.will keep trying the fluids i think, maybe some will stay down.

Can you get someone to help you get the calpol down her? Bit tricky on your own when they keep refusing it and shaking their heads but a few seconds of someone else helping would really help get the medicine down her so she feels better and the temp comes down.

Agree with Cornsilk, if she is very unwell go back to the doc.

Hope she is better soon.

Take her to A&E if it carries on too long olivo, fluids are essential when babies are ill - don't mean to alarm but dehydration with a temp is not good.

thanks everyone. dh has come home and we have manged to force some nurofen down her and put her to bed. she still refused all her milk though so i am terrified of dehydration and will check on her regulalry and go to A and E I think, if she stills seems unwell. it breaks my heart seeing her so unhappy

Thats good news. If you can get the next dose into her whilst she is sleepy it will be easier. Can you quirt a bit of water in at the same time? When dd had a temperature a few months ago I found putting her in the bath helped, unfortunately I had to go in too because she was clingy and weepy, but it did help.

Cut out the milk and give her water. try to get some dioralyte in to her as well. You can get paracetomol suppositories from the chemist for babies & children. Your GP could prescribe them also, as they are quite expensive. They are good if she won't take any medicine.
