Is it possible to miss a period without being pregnant?

My periods have been quite early since I took the MAP in October last year, anywhere between 2-5 days early each month. However this month I haven't got one at all. I expected to probably come on last weekend as its usually early, but my cycle is now on day 29 and still nothing. I used to get my period every 28 days like clockwork until the MAP.

I've taken about 10 pregnancy tests since last weekend, including first thing in the morning. One of the tests was a clear blue that said it can pick up 25ml HCG from 4 days before your period is due. The other ones pick up 10ml HCG, so all quite sensitive. Every single one has been negative, not even a small faint line on one.

Is it likely I could still be pregnant? I'm hoping I'm not but I just don't know why I'm still not getting my period.

Very stressed about the whole thing. Sad

Also I did a due date calculator on the nhs website and it dated me about 4weeks, so if I am pregnant wouldn't that be far enough gone to pick the HCG up?

I have missed a period and not been pregnant. Sometimes it just happens due to stress or hormones. If your period is already late, I would expect a test to pick up pregnancy.

Thanks thats made me feel a bit calmer. I'm wondering if I ovulated last month, I usually get horrendously sore boobs each month on ovulation day but I can't remember having it last month.

mycat if you're missing a period without being pregnant, it suggests that you haven't ovulated that cycle,as you cannot ovulate without having a period. Not so much of a concern as a one off, but if it happens frequently and you want children or more children, then I'd suggest a trip to the GP.

Thanks, is it normal to just randomly not ovulate? I haven't been stressed or had any lifestyle changes that could have caused it, so it seems strange that I didn't ovulate for no reason.

I've missed a few due to stress and a few when losing weight.

as you cannot ovulate without having a period
This is not totally correct. Occasionally, you can get a cyst that grows after you ovulate that means that your ovary continues to secrete progesterone which will then stop you having a period. I don't think it's common but it has happened to me a few times in my mid/late 30s. The cyst then receeds and the period comes.

Took another test this morning, one that picks up 10ml hcg, another clear negative.

How long until I can definitely rule out pregnancy? I've heard some women can get negative tests until the week after their period was due. Although I was expecting my period last weekend so it's nearly a week late now.

mycat fairly common. Pop to your GP for a blood test if you want to be 100% sure, however at 10 days late with negative tests I'd say the chances of you being pregnant are very very slim, I'm sorry.

swingof yes I meant without something else going on, sorry I should have clarified.

Don't be sorry, I don't want to be pregnant! I only had sex a few times last month and used condoms so it's probably very unlikely I am pregnant. I've never missed a period before though, only when pregnant with Dd.

My weight has dropped a bit, so I'm now slightly underweight, I wonder if that's caused it.

If your period does not appear in another week ask GP for a Thyroid test. Over and under active Thyroid glands can both stop periods.Early 40s can be the perimenopause for some women.
My friend had her last one at 41 and had no more, her DD was the same.
Most people lose lots of weight with an overactive Thyroid gland but not all do.
See our GP to put your mind at rest. Good luck

I missed periods during a stressful time in my life, when I was also losing weight. There was no way I could have been pregnant, so I didn't take any tests. But it's definitely possible for periods to stop without you being pregnant.

I miss periods - sometimes for several months -if I lose weight. I don't even have to lose much.

It can happen due to stress, weight loss and I'm sure other reasons, don't panic yet.
Good luck XX

Thanks all. I've read online that GPs aren't concerned about missed periods until you miss 3, do you think I'd be offered a blood test after only missing one?

You've all made me feel much better, thanks again.

Just bumping this.

Still no period and another clear negative test with first morning wee... I'm really worried I'm pregnant but my hgc levels are too low to be picked up. Can I rule out pregnancy if I'm still getting negatives in a weeks time?

Have many tests have you taken? You are not pregnant. You sound overly stressed about it which ironically may delay your period.

Probably 20 tests Blush. I'm just taking one every morning first thing now, incase I get a faint line.

I know the stress isn't helping, but I keep reading about women who didn't get a positive test until they were 12 weeks gone which it's not helping my fear. I need to stop googling. The whole situation is making me slightly unhinged.

I'm only early 20's, so it seems really weird I've missed a period for no reason.

I'm mid 30s and had this last year, although admittedly I've already finished my family so was desperate not to be pregnant.
It went on for 2 months before I went to the gp, and she wasn't overly concerned.
All returned to normal after another month, so that was 3 missed periods all in. I really wouldn't worry.

You taken 20 tests, you are not pregnant. The human body is an intricate thing, the female body especially so! Sounds like the MAP has messed yours up a bit. Maybe you period will come late this month, if it has ben knocked off its regularity.

Relax. Have a good meal, take some exercise, get some sleep, stop worrying. Test again in a week.

If I was certain that I wast pregnant, and my period didn't come, I'd be delighted!

I have missed one before and I was not stressed or anything. Doctor said it was possibly just a one off.

Thank you all. I'm going to try and forget about it for now and just see what happens. As a pp said, the stress isn't helping things. Hopefully I'll be back to normal next month.
