I have <a class="break-all" href="http://www.orthoseek.com/articles/chondromp.html\chondromalacia" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">www.orthoseek.com/articles/chondromp.html\chondromalacia pattalae}

Had it since late teens to mid twenties - did a lot of exercise and used to have to strap up my knees.

I actually forgot I had it as I haven't done ANY exercise in so long until the last week when I have begun gentle running (being very sensible btw) and it is starting to return.

I am about to remind myself of the exercises that I used to do but can't remember exactly how to strap my knees. I used to use strips of sticky gauze directly on my knees but that is all I can remember!!

I am going to get a referal to the physio at our gp surgery but it takes 6 weeks...

Anyone out there with any advice?
Many thanks

Popsycal I am a physio but not orthopaedics I am afraid. From the dredges of my memory the main thing with chondromalacia patella is to do loads of quadriceps exercises.

I imagine the taping would be a horseshoe shape under the patella and pulling up the sides of patella. sorry I can't remember more.

Hi Popsycal.

The main thing is to strengthen the quadricep nearest to your inner thigh (the bulging 'tear drop' muscle that footballers have. To do this, you turn your leg out slightly and keeping it straight, lift it up and down. you should be able to feel that muscle contracting as you do it.
