Is it normal to get pain in your armpit??

I get this from time to time but haven't had for the last few months. It started yesterday and hurts whenever I move my arm. There is a small bump there - I don't think it's a 'lump' ie anything to be worried about, as I can see it's slightly raised - maybe a spot or something. DH is slightly freaking out.

Could it be an ingrowing hair? Glands under arms can also get swollen and painful - I get that when I'm under the weather. Gp won't mind you getting it checked out if you're concerned.

There's quite a good page on armpit lumps here

I know there are glands there the same as the glands under your neck which swell up when you have a sore throat or whatever, do you have any pain, wounds or infection anywhere else?

Not sure what else the lump could be if it's actually on/near the surface of your skin. As you said, it could be a spot or something.

Having said all that, and without wishing to sound morbid, anything armpit or lymphnode related I would definitely get checked out by the doctor. My Mum ignored her itching armpit for nearly 18 months before asking the doctor what it was, and it was breast cancer.

(Sorry, really didn't want that to sound so morbid, just feel it's important everyone takes armpit stuff seriously!)

I had a similar thing a few years ago and the Doc diagnosed a lymphnode. I was under a lot of stress at the time and apparently this is a big contributing factor.
From what I remember I was given a course of antibiotics and it cleared up quickly.

Thanks for your advice guys. The bump had actually gone down by Sunday and the pain had stopped. Am wondering if this is a monthly thing, as I have heard you can get pain in the armpit associated with your periods. I am mid-cycle at the moment so maybe it was something to do with that.
