Another plea for help with my poor hoarse throat

Yet again I have almost lost my voice. I didn't even have a cold this time. I think the problem is straining it constantly at work and it just seems to be my weak spot at the moment.

Can anyone give me ideas of ways I can protect / strengthen it? Conventional or alternative all considered.

Can your GP refer you for speech therapy? It really works and you should be able to be seen on NHS.

I am worried I have this:

Vocal Nodules: More prolonged hoarseness is usually due to using your voice either too much, too loudly, or improperly over extended periods of time. These habits can lead to vocal nodules (singers? nodes), which are callous-like growths, or may lead to polyps of the vocal cords (more extensive swelling). Both of these conditions are benign. Vocal nodules are common in children and adults who raise their voice in work or play.

A friend of mine (we used to sing together in the same choir) had singer's nodules that caused pain and hoarsness. The speech therapist taught her exercises to enable her to not strain her voice. Then she had them surgically removed. That was 20 years ago and she is fine. HTH

Thanks all for the advice - I will try to get a referral to speech therapy - sounds wonderful.
