Any one with Crohn’s disease explain to me your symptoms...

Been suffering with problems for a year now and the past week I’ve flared up with awful abdominal pain running to the toilet about 25 times to just feel like I need to poo but nothing comes out and when it does it’s just diarrhoea and mucous. Severe nausea and I keep napping 3 hours on top of a 8 hours night sleep! Just want to have an idea of other people’s symptoms as I have an appointment on Monday! Thanks! X

Hi Gossip I have it and my symptoms are extreme tiredness, eczema on my eyelids, aching arms and legs, my bowels movements are usually foamy and loose but I never feel truly empty iyswim, I get terrible night sweats and if I wake up in the night my stomach hurts so much that I find it very hard to get back to sleep, if I eat the wrong foods I can suffer terrible wind and cramps. When I flare I literally feel so ill I imagine child birth is less painful!

No problem Gossip I've had a child but by emergency caesarian so I'm not sure what giving birth feels like, I no longer eat popcorn, salad, broccoli or cauliflower, lots of nuts are a no go. as is too much fresh fruit and veg. It's not a nice disease to have but I was just pleased that it wasn't bowel cancer or cervical cancer (my worst case scenario) you kind of learn to adapt and get on with it. Just be aware that so many other symptoms can be Crohns. Good luck at the doctor and keep going back if you are told it's ibs, the only certain way to diagnose it is a stool sample as people with Crohns will have a stool containing a certain protein which ibs patients doesn't have, if your sample contains this then you'll (hopefully) be sent for a colonoscopy and MRI. Good luck. 🍀

Buster is that correct about the stool sample showing potential crones? I have been told it doesn't?

C Reactive protein. Tells you how much inflammation in your system. You need blood tests and a stool test. Do not think you have Crohns based on some symptoms. I have Crohns/colitis and bleeding is a huge feature. Abdominal pain, arthritis, nausea, diarrhoea, fatigue etc. IBS as well.

As Bobbin said, my doctor told me that if I tested positive on the stool sample then it eliminates IBS, as soon as the stool sample tested positive we presumed I had crohns and then went from there to get an official diagnosis from the colonoscopy and MRI.

I am not sure I understand. Mine came back normal so does this eliminate all those conditions?

Stool sample normal? What about bloods?

A normal stool sample means you may have IBS but not Crohns. I am by no means an expert or a doctor so I could be wrong. This is the information I have learnt on my path to being diagnosed with Crohns.
