Raised Liver Function Result?? Help

BrollyDolly · 05/10/2017 14:24

I’ve had my blood results today and have been told that everything was normal apart from liver function which was raised. They have only asked me to repeat bloods in 3 months and not offered any indication of what this may mean. I’m late 20s. Had c section 3 months ago so not sure if it’s relevant.

Please can someone help?

I'm a GP. A raised liver function test is unlikely to be anything significant, especially if only slightly raised. They can't be very worried if retesting in 3 months but it as worried you. A raised LFT is the most common abnormality in an otherwise healthy person and rarely means anything. Do you know why you had it tested? Do you know the actual results?

Although that applies more to cancer testing, but the point is that we test too much and make patients anxious over nothing..,,

@DipsyLaLa22 thanks so much for your response. I was tested as for 4/5 weeks I was having horrendous stomach cramps with mostly loose stools. Having to rush to the toilet. Very pale in colour. This is still happening a couple of times a week. I’m feeling very tired and irritable. Don’t think this is connected to baby as she is sleeping well at night so allowing me to sleep also. Also keep getting blocked salivary glands under my tongue with ear aches both sides. This is coming on and off. Have had one lot of antibiotics and the dentist also checked and at the time she could see nothing wrong.

Bit fed up now of not feeling well!

@DipsyLaLa22 unfortunately the lady on the phone could only give me a message to say it was raised and no access to relevant numbers for it.

So you have only spoken to the receptionist? Can you make an appointment/telephone appointment to discuss with a GP? I would hate to think a patient was worried because I hadn't explained things properly.

Yes she called with results. I will have to call them tomorrow to book an appointment as no available appointments at the moment.

Mine was classed as deranged when in the throws of a gall bladder attack. It could be something it could be nothing. I’d make an appointment and ask if it’s worrying you x

Do you take a lot of paracetamol? I had raised liver function and was repeat tested but I was having a lot of headaches and taking painkillers most days. I think even having a few accumulates. This was the 3rd time and I tried really hard the last few weeks to keep hydrated and to stop headaches forming. No paracetamol! And my liver function came back ok this week.

@dipsy sorry to hjack OP. I've had fluctuating lfts over the last 4 years that are getting worse with no diagnosis yet or had it explained what it can be. Having an MRCP to look closer in a few weeks.
Following to see if anyone has any ideas.

@Mamabear14 no it isn’t that. I don’t very often take pain killers. Had the odd ibuprofen when I’ve got the pain in my mouth and ears. Maybe I’m not drinking enough?! Seems hard to keep hydrated when I’m so preoccupied with baby things

@HCantThinkOfAUsername no problem! I hope you get to the bottom of it soon. Please let us know how you get on Biscuit
