Nervous about DS0.4's weigh-in tomorrow...

My DS is getting weighed tomorrow and I am nervous...

I had him weighed last week and he is dropping down the percentiles so HV wants to weigh him tomorrow.

He's been sick this week (vomitting) and so I am worried he may actually have lost weight.

I can feel myself already getting nervous with the butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling.....

Please tell me to relax and that it is actually no big deal and that I am lucky that this is my biggest immediate concern about him????

Relax.
It's no big deal.
Remember it's not compulsory to see HV, go shopping instead and take him next week if you want to.

How are you feeding FF or BF?

Gosh it sounds like the opposite of when someone is going for their weekly weight watchers weigh-in!

I do remember being oh so delighted when DS started gaining weight nicely as he had been a bit runty for first few weeks, but if your poor DS has been unwell then it is surely expected that he might not have gained. As long as he is well again now, and is feeding ok it is no big deal. If he is not feeding then it is best that the HV is assessing him, to make sure he doesn't get really unwell.

Am sure he will be fine. Good luck.

I got ds (4 months) weighed this week as he's been very sick for the last 10 days & I wanted it recorded so I wouldn't get hassle later on if he regained slowly.

He'd lost 14oz but the hv seemed to think this was fine as the poor feeding/vomitting was down to a virus.

So don't worry if he's lost a bit - you have a reason for it. Maybe even put off the appointment until he's better if it's really stressing you?

Thanks guys!

I wouldn't normally have got him weighed so soon, but we are going away for several weeks on Sunday so this is the last and latest chance he has.

I don't want to do a no-show in case sometime it is held against me!

He is fully bf. I did actually try to give him a bottle last night out of desperation and (luckily I guess) he wouldn't take it.

He is feeding well (well I think so anyway) and more alert than he's been, so hopefully it will all be fine.

Thanks again,

He's put on around an ounce in one week....

I explained to HV that's he's been sick, and she wasn't concerned. She said he looks lovely and is well-covered.

She said he is at the age where his weight gain may be starting to slow down (4.5 months).

I talked about maybe introducing formula and she was pretty against the idea.

So I am glad I went!

(He's at 2% on the percentiles....)

there's no such thing as a 'no show.' you don't have to go at all. i fell into the old 'see you next week' crap from the HVs until i realised it is entirely optional. so what if he's dropped down the centiles? so what if he's lost a little weight from being ill...more important to see how he is once he's fully recovered and got his appetite back. babies have pudgy fat to see them through these sick times and help through the times when they're so busy crawling, rolling, walking, running.

for a very sensible sounding HV

She is great, she was my first DSs HV too so I feel like we have got to know each other over the last 3 years....

She been round to see DS0.4 a couple of times, and even if DS2.10 isn't home she always asks after him.

I think she is great! The GPs are very good where I am too. I feel like I am down there every week at the moment so I am starting to see not a new GP with every visit....it helps having some continuity....

Big round of applause for your nice, sensible hv. They get a lot of stick on here (for many good reasons though) so lets celebrate a good one!

Great that he has still managed to gain despite being poorly. And good you have a lovely HV.

Mine is also fabulous (IMHO) and I have called her countless times over the last year with what I now know are very silly questions, but she has always been really helpful. When I called her in tears once after five nights of no sleep, she raced round to see us, and gave lots of good advice.

Hurrah for great HVs, and for your DS!
