Heartburn Everyday

I've had heartburn every day for around a month now. Rennie's etc relieve it but it comes back eventually. I've only ever had heartburn before when I was pregnant (but just to note I am 110% NOT pregnant). It's driving me crazy! Like every time I need to burp (sorry for TMI) I get acid Shock I know Mumsnet cannot diagnose me but I'm starting to think it could be GERD? Has anyone had anything similar?

What's been happening over the last month? Any diet or lifestyle changes? Have you seen your doctor?

Greasy and acidic foods are your enemy, milk of magnesia is your friend!

I'm sure you're right that it's what you've been eating, but please see your doctor as a precaution if moving over to a healthier diet doesn't clear this up very quickly. My husband had what he thought was heartburn for many years, came on after exercise. Turns out it was mild angina. He eventually had a heart attack, angiogram and a stent put in, and fortunately has been absolutely fine ever since, with no more chest pain. But if he'd had the pain investigated many years ago the blockage in his artery might not have got that bad.

Thanks user I better start getting my act together Blush

Gasp I'm sorry to hear about your husband. Glad he's now well. I will get it checked out but I know it's definitely heartburn/acid reflux because i can feel and taste the acid when it happens....

Please get it checked out. Frequent acid indigestion can irritate the lining of the oesophagus and cause cell changes.

You may need some investigation or a watching diet change.

If you are overweight and or eat a lot of rich food and or wear tight clothes this can exacerbate it.

Regardless given it's been a month def go to GP and see. It's not good practice to mainline rennie

Ranitidine is more effective in my experience. However sudden and increased reflux can be an indicator of some pretty serious conditions so please do get checked out.

Yeah see your GP as if nothing else they will be able to give you something that is better to control it.

In terms of triggers etc I suffered with this for several years, then it miraculously resolved itself and all is well now. In the early days I drove myself mad cutting out this and that. The only things that definitely were bad were raw onions and white wine. It was worse at some points of my cycle.

But it's highly unlikely to be anything serious.

Sorry and meant to say I wasn't overweight either.

And omeprazole is much better than rinitidine.

All good advice on here. I would second the ranitidine and a visit to the gp.
I suffered for years and the thing that set me off was meat; I changed to a vegetarian diet and it cleared up straight away.

Mmm... I had a very bad bout of it too at the beginning of the year. It lasted about 3 months.

I was on omeprazole and ranitidine and even with that I had problems, so much so that just loading the dishwasher or picking something up off the carpet brought acid up to my mouth. Then my hair started to fall out so I came off the omeprazole and at first it was hellish. But after a month or so I am now fine on just the ranitidine at night. No changes to diet. Certainly coming off Omeprazole can make things worse for a while but I really do not know what caused my issues - perhaps a hiatus hernia.

I agree with what others have said, get it checked out and get on proper medication to control symptoms (rennies are not seen as long term meds) because it is compromising long term health to leave it untreated.

Yeah the one thing that I think I probably have changed is that I eat my dinner at 6pm these days and don't eat again after that. I used to eat at 7.30. I think avoiding rich/ fatty foods helps also. As I said I also am worse at certain times of my cycle, if I get hb now it is almost always around ovulation or if I have been drinking prosecco
