Oh joy, our very first visit from the headlice fairy. So would it be unreasonable...

... to cancel our weekend visit to childless friends?

Had a warning letter from school earlier this week, been checking ds's hair, clear every night. Until tonight. When I saw two tiny black things that were moving eek eek eek. (Assume they are headlice.) Soooo, we are supposed to be travelling 100 odd miles to stay with very dear but childless friends tomorrow. I'd rather not go now - don't want to spend the weekend nit combing ds's hair in someone else's house (and my head's feeling itchy now eek eek eek).

Of course, if I was a Proper Mummy, I'd have had a nit comb and some Hedrin in the cupboard, but I'm not and I don't so wasn't able to treat him tonight (just slathered his hair in conditioner in a vain attempt to smother the little buggers).

Yuck yuck yuck and bugger, haven't seen said friends for ages and was really looking forward to it.

dont worry you can comb in secret at bath time.

if you've not noticed them before chances are there arnt many are there any eggs?

Edam, how long is ds's hair? Fancy a crew cut? That would fix it...

otherwise, if you wet comb with conditioner and a proper comb VERY THOROUGHLY before you go, ds should not be able to pass on lice to anyone until Monday or Tuesday when more will have hatched out, when you can comb again.

You should comb very thoroughly every 3 days for at least 2 weeks or until all lice have gone.

Check everyone in the family as it is quite likely that you have them too, sorry

Hi sorry interrupted. Thanks for advice.

Custy, I hope not, but then I really need new glasses so can't be sure!

FaZ, you mean a proper nit comb?

I know re me too, that's what I'm really dreading, as I have longish thick curly hair will take HOURS to do mine.

dd's nursery has lice again, although dd hasn't have them i have been checking her hair everyday, one of the mums at nursery is a hairdresser and she reccomended Hedrin, says it would be a good idea to keep a bottle on the house.

Save yourself a fortune - Keep lots of cheap conditioner in the house. Best advice I was ever given. Just keep combing! And enjoy your visit. Its worth getting some good info on the little buggers (the lice that is) to understand why headlice solutions aren't necessary.
