Help! Has anyone had one? Any advice? I'll need to take the day off work but will I need anyone with me?

If you have sedation and I would recommend you do then you will need someone to collect you after the procedure. You will also need to be near the loo when taking the prep the day before so you may need the day off or to work from home.
You also cannot drive for 24 hours after the sedation so getting to and from work may be tricky.

I've had a few colonoscopies and they are a bit uncomfortable but not really painful.

I dreaded mine but can honestly say it was nowhere near as bad as i imagined.
Take someone yes . You wont be able to drive anyway and good to have company whilst waiting etc.
You wont remember much due to sedation which was best bit. Had a lovely long snooze atfterwards!
Oh and medicine to make you poo beforehand means dont make any plans for night before. But even that wasnt as bad as people said
Good luck x.

Weirdly my friend had a colposcopy today! Hmm thanks - not sure who I'll be able to get to come with me but I've got a few weeks to work something out. I'll be getting the train there and back but I'll need someone to do pick up from
Nursery too if I can't drive - looks like DP is cancelling his work night out! Thanks x

You will be fine, worst bit is taking the prep the day before to clean you out! Have a bit of sedation to relax you (you won't actually be asleep though).

A lot of hospitals will only give you sedation if you have someone to accompany you to and from the hospital because you will be zonked.

I actually had one the other week and opted not to have sedation because I didn't want to be put of it afterwards and it was totally fine :) I asked for a painkiller and no sedation. They did the painkillers via a canula so that if I found it all too much I could ask for the sedation. It was uncomfortable but not painful. I'd totally do it that way again if I had to have another one :)

For me the prep was worse than the procedure. I had the sedation, they gave me gas and air. It was uncomfortable at times but not painful. I'm glad I had the sedation. The experience is a hazy memory.

Mine was fine. Nowhere near as bad as I expected. Have gas and air, it has a mild sedative effect but is also a painkiller. Plus the recovery time is minutes rather than hours so you'll be discharged WAY sooner.

The problem with the sedation is that it's a VERY small dose anyway and isn't a painkiller so you'd still feel it

They aren't that bad. Back to work the next day a few pounds lighter!

Seeing inside the colon is actually quite interesting.

In fact, I liked the gas and air that much I'd have another just for that! Grin

The only uncomfortable bit was when the doctor had to "lubricate the passageway" his fingers were HUGE Shock. I didn't even feel the camera
