Does anyone know anything about labyrinthitis?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Have had it now for about 3 weeks. Am on mottion sickness tabs from drs but still have moments when I feel like I've drank about 20 pints! I still feel like I'm going to fall over! I cant do things like queue in the bank or cross the road as I cant look in one direction and walk in the other! When will I feel normal again?!

It might be worth going back to the GP to ask for a set of exercises to do to relearn basic things like walking and turning after your balance has been upset. This is how dp recovered from a severe bout of labyrinthitis some years ago. But I've also heard from some sufferers that complete rest worked for them. I think in either case, recovery tends to be gradual - labyrinthitis is dreadful, I do hope you feel better soon.

Thanks matonic - wouldnt mind so much feeling like I'd had 20 pints if I actually had! I just feel a bit of a numpty that I cant walk anywhere without feeling that I'm staggering around! Apart from anything with working full time & having 4 kids its not very practical!

My dad had it for some years (not constantly!) and during severe bouts could only crawl to the loo. Otherwise he was bed-bound. He took stemetil in tablet form, although had an injectable form at home in case he had a bad bout on my wedding day (there was no way he wasn't walking me down the aisle he said). Now he hasn't had it for I would reckon about 8 years. I don't know why he started getting it and then why it stopped, nor why some attacks were worse than others. So actually I've given you no help whatsoever I'm afraid, except perhaps hope that you won't always suffer.
Hope someone can help.

Thanks Posey - I'm on stetemil as well. Can understand the crawling to the loo - have been trying to work out ways I can get to the toilet at work without walking! Mine cam on suddenly as well. One minute I was ok & then I stood up to go out of the office & its all been downhill since then!

Stemetil - yes, dp took this as well. And the coming-on-suddenly seems to be highly characteristic of labyrinthitis. Dp says one of the advantages of the exercises over drugs is that it gave him some confidence: when he started to feel himself go, he could take a deep breath, remember the basic exercise, and take it, very slowly, from there.
