NAPROXEN: anyone had any strange reactions?

I've been prescribed naproxen. I had one yesterday morning and two hours later I had a terrible reaction, like I'd been hit with a horse tranquilliser. It felt like my tongue had swollen and my throat was constricted, however it was my mouth gone so dry I could not swallow without water. I had just taken strong Co-codamol at the time so thought it was that. I did ring 111 for advice and it wore off 3 hours later.

So this morning I took half a naproxen, 2 hours later the same thing but less severe, so I'm thinking now that it's the naproxen.

I feel like I'm on serious drugs. I'm hyper. Trying to clean the house to distract myself. Has anyone else had this??? Please tell me yes! I'm also on amoxicillin but continued to take that yesterday with no problems.

I took Naproxen for a bad back and had Anaphylaxis. It was a slow build but I woke up with a very swollen face and neck. Just made it to hospital in time as my throat then closed. Horrible stuff.

it's a great medicine and works well for many people.
a relative is on it long term for arthritis and is doing well on it.
but yes, medicines that have an effect can have bad side effects.
I fainted when I was prescribed it for an inflammation.

read the package leaflet for side effects.

Definitely stop taking and get medical advice! I'm intolerant to naproxen and it makes me sick but sounds like you may be allergic.

Yes, my lips got really swollen and sore. Think it was an allergic reaction so I stopped taking it.
Definitely stop taking it until you get some advice.

I had an allergic reaction to it. Definitely don't take anymore. A doctor will be able to prescribe an alternative painkiller.

Naproxen makes me feel worse than co codamol. I was however warned not to take the 2 together. I made the mistake of taking naproxen at work and felt absolutely dreadful

I'm allergic to it. Took it once only and woke up with swollen eyes and face.

My arms went limp. My heart was racing. I've never taken speed but I imagine it would be like that. I felt hyper. Trying to figure out if that was me panicking though. But it lasted hours.

I know this is like a year later ... but I know EXACTLY how you felt! I felt for you so badly when I read your post.

I had a headache the other night and no excedrin(my usual go-to) so I took two over the counter Naproxen. About an hour or two later I felt bizarre and it was an awful feeling! I felt dizzy, especially when looking at the TV or my phone, I broke out in a SEVERE sweat and had terrible stomach reaction. My heart was pounding so hard I was googling ways to lower it and I just felt out of it...I cleaned my entire house too! It was a distraction. It’s the next day and I still feel it, albeit not nearly as severe, but I questioned whether I could drive to work today. It felt like everything was in slow motion; even simple convos with my mom would make me aware of how odd I felt, just looking at her I felt dizzy. You are not alone! I will never take Naproxen again!

Meant to add...I took the Naproxen about 24 hours ago (not the other day) but still feel the effects somewhat. Freaky drug. I was so relieved your post was here to consult!❤️
