ridiculous sharp pain in tummy

My tummy hasn't been right for about a week, just generally crampy when I eat but I've also been getting a ridiculously sharp pain in my right hand side, just above my hip bone and a bit to the front. It's happened a few times today, enough that I'm struggling not to cry out but only lasts about 30 seconds or so. It feels like a really really bad stitch.

Not gynae as I had a scan very recently for heavy periods and there's no cysts or anything.

Any ideas with your magic mn x-ray eyes?

Appendix? (not a medic). Tell me you've done the sensible thing and made a GP appointment.

not yet Blush I feel rubbish anyway with a flare of psoriatic arthritis, so I've just added it on to my I feel crap pile. I've not even told anyone. Maybe I should write a note under my pillow explaining my symptoms in case I peg it in the night Wink

seriously, I don't feel well enough to persue it unless it becomes ignorable.

It does sound like appendix which can go from niggle to potentially quite dangerous in a shirt space of time.

Next time it flares up, try lying flat and pressing firmly but gently on the area affected. If it's ok when you press but excruciating when you release the pressure then it's very likely to be appendix.

I'd suggest you get an emergency appointment asap tbh.

ok, I'll try that. If it keeps at this level I'll make an appt to see my gp tomorrow. If it gets significantly worse I'll call ooh.

Hopefully it's trapped wind or ibis or something. Really rather not have appendicitis! It does look like that on paper though doesn't it.

thanks :)

I ruptured a stomach muscle last year which presented like appendicitis. The other thing the doctor tested for was some kind of ovarian problem

I had this last year. It escalated within hours and I ended up in hospital for four days. They thought appendicitis but treated with IV antibiotics which apparently is the preferred approach now.

oh cripes.

Knowing me it'll just be some weird thing that happens for absolutely no reason. Hopefully!

I had it 2 and after years ago. It was 2 days after DD's birthday so initially thought it was trapped wind when I woke up with twinges at 4am.

By 8 I couldn't manage to get dressed to get DD to school so took her in my PJ's.

By 12 I was cring in pain and made emergency GP appt.

By 5 I was being fast tracked through A&E for an emergency appendectomy.

It was not fun, and in my case came with the added bonus of an ovarian cyst which resulted in further surgery 6 months layer.

I'm not normally a drama llama about health but I definitely think getting it checked out before the weekend would be a good idea Flowers.

maybe it's ovulation pain?

DS1 was sick one Saturday evening. Said his tummy hurt - "yes you have a sick bug it will hurt" we said.
Wouldn't eat all day Sunday and said tummy hurt "you haven't eaten all day your tummy will hurt until you eat" we said,
kept him off school on Monday as he still want himself, complained of tummy hurting still wouldn't eat etc.

Tuesday he had to have his burst appendix out as well as part of the lining surrounding his bowel, have his insides washed out with saline and was off school for a month.

Just saying....

Blimey Brie I'll take my experience over yours any day - your poor DS. Hope he's fully recovered now.

I had an eventful few days - it was definitely quite a shock but all in all could've been a lot worse.

How are you doing Kitten?

Blush
I'm fine now Grin well, my tummy is anyway! Sharp pains overnight, niggles this morning but lunch I was able to have a lunch without discomfort.
One of those weird things. I think by asking on mn I cured myself.
Thank you for asking.
