Mass in uterus, fibroids?! So worried long essay

Hi I've had two c sections. One in 2010 and one in 2012. I have had the occasional twinge in my scar but over the last few months I have had a lot of pain and a swelling on the left hand side of the scar. This only occurs the week of and the week after my period.

I went to the doctor and she told me it was probably scar tissue but sent me for an ultrasound just in case. I had that done and was told that they have seen a mass in my uterus with its own blood supply.

I was referred for an "urgent" gynae appointment which took 8 weeks and consisted of me sitting down and him referring me for an urgent MRI on the advice of GP. I was told it would be this week, I rung to chase it today as I heard nothing and the paperwork was missing info as the consultant hadn't filled it in properly. The MRI Dept only got it handed back to them today. The clinic told me it would need go be looked at by their department consultant and he would decide how much of a priority I am. The whole thing has been going on for over 4 months now.

I am worried sick! I have been given no indication of what it could be. I have been googling a lot and seen the C word mentioned a lot in regards to masses with own bloody supply. I thought if they suspected the C word they would have had me in quicker. Has anyone had anything similar? I am making myself ill with the stress of the waiting thanks for reading

Fibroids are very, very common and are a much more likely scenario than anything malignant. I've just had a hysterectomy because of a massive fibroid which was causing lots of bleeding - they attach to the uterus by a stalk and therefore have their own blood supply. They are NOT cancer.

You might not need a hysterectomy either - there are lots of options which your consultant can talk you through.

Oh and if the ultrasound had even a smidgen of a reason to suspect cancer, you'd have been seen very quickly indeed. They are obviously not terribly concerned.

Thanks Luna, I am just more concerned that no one has given me any idea of what it could be and I've had to resort to Google. Even the consultant said I'm a bit of a mystery when I asked him outright what he thought could be wrong. I know the MRI will show the blood flow and that's why they want to do it but the length of time it's taking is not helping either.

He also said that the MRI was urgent and would be done within a week which again set alarm bells off. You'd think a gynae consultant would know a fibroid when he saw one, I'm just stressing myself out now and not googling again!

You need to keep chasing them- I'd not be happy with that kind of cock up if I'd been referred for an urgent MRI! Bloody disgraceful. I'd be on the phone to them daily to chase and mention you were told it was urgent.

OR get your GP to chase- that's what they are supposed to do.

Thanks Polly, I have been chasing both the Gynae and MRI, my GP has done too. She said if I haven't heard anything by Tuesday to call her again and she will push for it. I'm going to call the MRI Dept Monday again.
