DD is 14. She started her periods properly three months ago and has had 3 cycles of 27-28 days with bleeding lasting 4-6 days, not particularly heavy.

She is now 18 days in to her cycle and is bleeding. It was like pink discharge this morrning but now she says there's red blood and more than a little bit. I will check when she gets home from school.

I thought it might be an ovulation bleed but how heavy can they get or is it normal to have a 18 day cycle while your periods are settling. I will make her a dr appt for next week in case it gets heavier, but I was wondering if anyone has gone through this. She doesn't get period cramps or anything usually.

All completely normal. It'll take a good year or two to settle into a pattern. I really wouldn't bother seeing a doctor about this at this stage

Normal I would say. My DD started hers in May, had a period for the next three months at regular 4 week cycle. Didn't have one at all in september then had 2 a couple of weeks apart oct/nov. I wouldn't see a GP either.

DD (almost 15) is 2½ years in and i thought they were finally setling down earlier this year. Then we recently had two 20 day cycles in a row. Both coincided with trips away from home.

At 28 days the next one would be due two days after we go on holiday at Christmas so i'm hoping for another short cycle. She's only ever had one long cycle which was 45 days!

I don't remember that sort of lengthy cycle when I started. My dd hasn't started yet but should she start having a pattern that was so dissimilar to my own experience, I would probably want to chat to an hcp.

Can be normal but if it's continues especially if it turns into proper periods rather than discharge it may be worth getting her on the pill. My 15yo is on the pill for this as her ferritin levels were in her boots by having a 20 day cycle.
