General health

headache for a week - starting to get worried

Every few months or so I get a headache, triggered by a combination of lack of sleep and alcohol. I don't drink much, a couple of glasses, a few times a week, but occasionally I drink something that doesn't agree with me and over the next 24-48 hours a headache develops that sticks around for 3 days, i.e. ending at some point on the third day.

Last Thursday I drank a sweet wine drink, brought as a gift, just being polite really, had a couple of glasses of it on top of a glass of wine. Headache started the next day and is still going today, a full week on. It's not an awful headache, a pulsing vein on my temple but I very tired now.

I've had early nights and no alcohol whatsoever, plenty of water.

I'm starting to feel like it will never go away.

Sorry to hear it - have you thought about other causes? Sounds unlikely that it could be alcohol as that is cleared out by the liver quite quickly and would not out of your system by the time the headaches start. Could it be muscular/tension? Are you dehydrated?

Is it just in your head, or in your neck and shoulders too? If the latter, I find the Polar Ice spray stuff can be helpful.

Wine can give me a headache for a few days, but a week is quite a while. Are you allergic to anything in the drinks?

Thanks very much for your responses. The headache finally went on Friday, so a week. I have been really tired and flaking out at 8ish.

I don't have pain in my neck and shoulders but I think it could maybe be muscular. I tried to get a massage (I have had one before from a therapist who was excellent) but couldn't get an appointment.

It could be an allergy because it seems to happen when I have a mixed, cocktail type drink, never just a glass of wine, compounded by lack of sleep.

I will check out polar ice spray, thanks

So happy to be feeling back on form again Smile
