his eyes do look a little better but hes woke up this morning with them caked in gunk and shut so tightly together that ive had to bathe them in warm water to get them open

I think the bottle says 4/5 days before considering that not working - I would ring the drs though if you're worried, although perhaps leave it another day yet.

Brandy7 - my DS had conj... over xmas and i found that the eye drops didnt do much. I used warm water and cotton wool every few hours and the eye drops just twice a day.I Think it took about 7 days for my DS's to clear up.

Hi all - although I'm 31 weeks pregnant with my first baby, its amazing the information you pick up even before the birth! I have been told that the best treatment for conjunctivitus is breast milk! Apparently a squirt in each eye sorts it out pronto... Up to you if you want to try it!

DS recently had it - it took about 7 days with the drops (which you can actually buy in Boots as my DH discovered when he then got it too!). However since then when he's had a cold his eyes have appeared a bit more gunky - GP said this was totally normal. Apparently it depends on whether it is bacterial or viral conjunctivitis or something - I was listening but DS was busy bashing me with a toy at that point so have forgotten the rest of what she said!

Hi my dd has had this since last Friday night and eye drops (from boots) since Sat pm. This morning was the first morning that I have not had to bathe her eyes open even with using the eye drops!!
I was told by the pharmacist that it usually clears up after about 5 days of using eye drops.

bathing the eyes with a mixture of cooled boiled water with euphrasia is excellent...

i found if the eye drops don't work quickly (48 hours should see big improvement) then ask for the cream - much thicker drops which seem to be more effective. I don't think they like to give it out (fucidin i think it's called) as some people are becoming immune.

breast milk is brilliant by the way. i kept a bag in the freezer just for conjunctivitis emergencies (thing is it is a year old now so guess i should bin it, can't bring myself to! )
