ds1 says he has a hurting belly button......?

He woke up a few times in the night crying that he had a poorly belly and needed some medicine to make it better. I aksed him a few times where it hurt and each time he pointed IN his belly button.

he settled back to sleep but hasn't been himself today, hardly anything to eat, - i knew he was really not feeling well when he left lemon drizzle cake untouched!. We went to soft play with his nana and he wasn't charging around liek he usually would, he was very sedate and looked like he was just doing the motions. I have asked him off an on what is wrong with him and he keeps telling me that his belly hurts and points to his belly button. As DP was putting him tobed he said his throat hurt. He does have a raised temp, altho i have no working thermometer so don't know how much raised it is

NHS direct not helping much...any clues?

Sometimes you can get fungal infections in bellybuttons. Try a dab of canneston cream and see if that helps.

Anytime mine have tummy ache they point in their belly buttons.

What causes tummy ache then? is it just one of those things that children just get?

my dd does the same when she has tummy ache and I say where is the pain she circles her finger round her belly button how strange is that

You can get tummy pains with tonsilitis - to do with the glands - if that's a possibility?

My 3 Dc point to their tummy buttons aswell when they say their tummies hurt.

Sounds like your Ds has a tummy/cold/etc bug.

I would give him some medicine and see if that helps. High temp, sore throat, poorly tummy,some medicine is needed I would think.

I guess kids just see the pain as being in the tummy so point to the belly button as it goes 'in' the tummy.

Could it be wind or constipated? May just be a bug.

he has just had chicken pox and is still a bit coldy so could be a cold, how odd to manifest itself in stomach as well..!!

Is he going to the toilet OK?

Constipation in children often manifests itself as pain around the belly button area.

I would echo what polgara2 said, it may be he has swollen glands, your GP would be able to feel them if thats the case.

he hasn't wee'd much today but thats not entirly unusual, sometimes he will only goa few times. poo early this morning was normal too.

thanks for asking tortoise. I gave him calpol b4 nursery and he was fine until he came out. flagged abit after lunch but he had a friend round and by half 4 he was whimpering that it was hurting again. I dunno what it is lol but he is much better today thank you x

my ds is 5 and has just been diagnosed with a hernia which i have only noticed due to seeing a lump near his belly button have you had a feel around there?

donlt want to panic you and they dont tend to treat it unless it is really bothering them but if you are unsure it'sworth having a look

there is noting tehre that i can feel. i immediatly thought appendicitis so had a good feel around to see if it hurt him, nothing abnormal there at all
