Conjunctivitis

Have ongoing problems with one of my eyes, all down to a very narrowed tear duct. After putting up with months of constant watering, I had a procedure to widen the tearduct last autumn. It was successful for a bit, but it has been watering a lot again over the summer with hayfever. I have now developed some sort of infection in it - crusty eye when I woke yesterday, sore throat and snot mainly on the same side as my eye. Lovely.

Have got the Optrex antibiotic eyedrops over the counter from chemist, so will this clear on its own or do I need to see doctor - it's the summer holidays here and with children at home I'd rather not drag them all to the hospital unless I really need to.
