Best pills for bad migraines??

My migraines seem to be getting worse as I get older and they are more frequent and usually last 3 days!
If it's a milder migraine paramol usually works but if it's one of my severe ones they don't touch it! Can anyone recommend anything?
I also suffer from a lot of back neck and shoulder pain and am going to see a rheumatologist soon (tried physio and didn't help) they said I had hyper mobility syndrome and a dropped scapula and apparently these are also linked to migraines!
I'm only 34 but feel 84!!
I used to take a low dose of amitriptaline (spelling!) which worked wonders but then I got used to them and only option was to get higher dose and I don't want to fall into that trap!

I can understand your reluctance to go back on amatryptaline, the side effects can be terrible

I'm on beta blockers for migraine prevention but I have a similar issue. Mine are caused through TMJ and grinding my jaw in my sleep. It causes tension in my head and I was having month long migraines until the beta blockers

Ask for a referral to a physio and see if they can help. But if you've been told things are out of place you might find a chiropractor is better

I forgot - as to pain relief for when they're active - I've found soluble paracetamol with caffeine and liqid gel capsule ibuprofen the best. Standard pills don't work as the digestive system shuts down

I suffered for years nothing worked then finally got blood pressure tablets has always been bordline high before but Because of my age no one was bothered. But 18m ago finally got diagnosed with high Bp and started meds and not a single migraine! Turns out the actual feeling like your brain is exploding under pressure was probable right.
Still get visual migraines but nothing like horrendous ones. Worth keeping an eye on if your BP is board line.

Hi thank you but there's no way I'm taking beta blockers :( my fiancé used to take them years ago then when he changed doctors they took him straight off saying how bad they were etc and now I can't touch them.
I can't take soluble paracetamol either it makes me vomit :( I'm doomed

Have you tried sumatriptan? Works wonders for my migraines

My dp takes zomig... Just when he feels one coming on. He finds them really effective and he suffers very badly from migraine- no amount of paracetamol would help him

I take sumatripan if I get to it early enough. I find it delays the onset but doesn't always resolve but it can be helpful if I have a busy workday I can "postpone" my migraine until the following day. I use paramax just to take the edge of the nausea but these are obviously only of use if I take them before my stomach shuts down and I begin to vomit. I don't find they help with anything else though.

I used to go to a chiropractor, do lots of yoga and take the mini pill.

I've never been sure why I get the migraines except that I broke my neck years ago and get very stressed - hence I found the chiropractor and yoga helpful.

My migraines now just seem to be hormonal and tied to menstrual cycle. I had an evil 3 dayer last month and I'm hoping this month won't be the same.

I hope your doctor can give you something to help OP.

DH cured his migraines by taking the lowest dose of soluble aspirin each day
If I get one I use maxalt melt

I had to take amitriptylene for a period when pregnant as my migraines became very bad. Awful, hated taking it. Ibruprofen, caffiene and sumatriptan work for me. I also had acupuncture for them a couple of years ago and that worked wonders. Honestly don't know how, I was sceptical but the improvement in them was noticable. The sumatriptans work well for me and can get rid of the migraine if I take them soon enough.

My ds, 15, has suffered migraines for last six months. Medication has not helped as side effects were too much, eg. tiredness. He is now having acupuncture once a week and it has really helped him.
