Heel pain

I've been having pain in my left heel since Monday afternoon. It feels like a deep bruise towards the back, with additional pain between my inner ankle bone and the upper edge of the heel pad. If I press on it there's a really sore spot in that area. I'm not aware of having injured myself at any point. It's definitely not worse when I first start moving - if anything, it gets worse after I've been on my feet for a while. Rest helps but then I'm more aware of it aching. I'm walking on my toes most of the time (so now of course my calf muscle is sore).

I've been in and out of the GP multiple times over the past couple of weeks for myself and the DC. I don't really want to have to go back for something new if I can avoid it. Does it sound like something that's likely to go away on its own? Should I have it seen?

Policemans heel, aka Postmans heel as the police don't walk as much as they used to.
It's caused by wearing flat shoes.
The GP will probably just confirm diagnosis, there's not much they can do.
Get yourself a good pair of well cushioned running shoes and some of those gel heel inserts. This worked for me but it took a good 4 weeks for the pain to subside.
I hope that helps.

Ohhh thanks arewethere. I'd only ever heard of that as a synonym for plantar fasciitis, which didn't quite fit my symptoms. Further reading has been enlightening. I guess I'd better cough up for some better quality shoes Sad On the other hand - new shoes and an excuse to put my feet up! Grin

I won't panic about getting medical attention then.

Have you been wearing flat shoes? I had been wearing flat ish trainers and I was on my feet all through my 10hr shifts in them. I've since slung them in the bin. The good thing with those gel insoles is that you can quite easily transfer them to different shoes and now I can't live without them.
Give it a few weeks and get back to GP if its still giving you gip.
I wasn't 100% sure that it was policemans heel and was umming and arrhing whether to see gp, at one point I thought I'd broken my ankle as sometimes the pain was intense. Then one day I woke up and I'd got it in the other foot too, so that confirmed it and off I hobbled and bought some cheap but comfy running trainers.

I've been wearing flat sandals that are well past their use by date. My other heel is not as painful but I can feel the potential there for it to go the same way.

I have dreadful trouble finding shoes that fit me because I have very wide feet, short toes, and high tops to my feet. It warm here so I usually just find a pair of sandals that fit reasonably well and wear them until they die. I think I'll have to find a specialist shoe shop that can fit me properly, though I can't really afford it. Stupid feet.
