Folic Acid Deficiency

Ds's GP ordered a set of bloods because ds's asthma has been really bad for a few weeks now and bad for months before that. He's had A&E visits and admissions, steroids and antibiotics but nothing gives longterm relief and today only two days after a fortnight of steroids he's really bad again.
He was called in today for his blood results and they apparently show almost no folic acid in his blood which the GP said is a worry but all of his other results are great. She mentioned celiacs being a possible cause but ds has had no gastro symptoms.
She has reordered blood tests, ds sees respiratory consultant on Monday and then after repeat bloods she will refer on to investigate the cause of the folate deficiency.
Is it possible to have celiacs with no symptoms other than low folate? Ds eats well and healthily so pretty sure it's not downto poor diet.

I've just been told the same. I have a good diet, eat lots of green vegetables so it's a mystery to me too. I've been put on a high dose of folic acid tablets and a repeat of bloods in 3 months. Had your son been feeling really tired??

Yes incredibly tired although his asthma has been awful so put it down to him struggling with that and then the chest infections. Never thought that the tiredness was something else tbh. The blood tests were initially ordered to try and determine what antibiotics were needed for his chest infection rather than because the GP suspected anaemia.
