I have a sore knee (old injury has led to wear and tear/have lost a full thickness patch of cartilage under the knee cap) after a long day today it is aching like hell and is inflamed.

So physio said to put heat on it for pain but sports massage person (who is not treating me) said to put ice on it for swelling.
So heat or cold? I'm confused!

I've been told ice ,ice ,ice for inflamation .

If you can't tolerate alternate with warmth but always finish with cold .

My physiotherapist said they both accomplish the same thing and it is about whatever works best for you or that you can tolerate.
