UC/Crohns question.

I'm having a colonoscopy sometime in the next month or so, a sigmoidoscopy about three years ago resulted in a proctitis diagnosis. However, they are now considering UC or Crohns, particularly as Crohns is in the family (mother and brother). I have been prescribed mesalazine. My question is, if I take this now, will they be able to tell if anything is wrong when I have the colonoscopy? I know it sounds daft, but I haven't a clue and I don't want to be told off for wasting their time and then have (yet another) recurrence a month later.
Thanks for any help offered.

Dawn - I'd check that, if I were you. I've just come back from a consultation (actually about to post about it) where I was advised to stop meds (an iron supplement in my case) a week before an endoscopy & sigmoidoscopy as that could discolour results. Do phone your GP or maybe better still the hospital. The consultant/specialist nurse could advise you one way or another. Good luck!

Hi Dawn - what did they say about taking the meds while you're waiting for a colonoscopy? I hope things are resolved for you, soon. Take care.

I'm to stop a week before, just as you said, Thank you! Much appreciated as I'm not going for another three weeks and am having a flare up, so having it a touch more controlled will be nice!
