DS2 is four weeks old today. I am exclusively breast feeding and he constantly has wind. I can feel it when I hold him crashing through his little body. Last night was awful as he was just crying so much and the only thing to sooth him was to feed which made it worse.

Through the night he is constantly restless with wind. I know it is that he is not latching on properly as I only stopped feeding ds1 a few months ago so am an experienced breast feeder. Have been to breast feeding support drop ins all week and nothing seems to have helped.

Have tried coleif and infacol but they actually seem to make it worse. Also have tried formula which also made him scream but don't know if this was because it was on top of lots of breast milk.

My question is wheather it is better all round to stop bf and give formula as am sure the bad latch on is not helping. Have thought about expressing and giving in a bottle but don't know where I would find the time as ds1 is only 14 months so am exhausted with the two of them!!

Any advice out there please please please.

Ds1 was similar. It turned ou that he was sensitive to dairy in my diet. Try eliminating things one at a time to see. Dairy is one of the most common so you could start there. I could eat cheese and yogurt as it turned out, but no milk or ice cream.

Do you wind him after he's been feed ? How often is he feeding ?
What about one expressed feed a day say before you put him down at night.

Yes could try cutting out dairy in my diet may try this from today, does that mean nothing with milk in so no biscuits or anything that contains milk.

Yes I do wind him after a feed and he does burp quite well most times. Is feeding say every 2-3 hours but does have times during the day and def at night from say 5pm-10pm when I am feeding him alot more seems like he doesn't ever stop at these times, but is the only thing that comforts him. Feel I am making the problem worse by keep feeding but its the only thing that calms him. I know the latch on is not good either, he is taking in alot of air.

This is why I am leaning towards formula so that I know how much I am giving him to eliminate cluster feeding and that I know that the latch on is not what is making it worse.

I could cook with it but that's all. Even drinking the smallest amount would produce a reaction.

Infacol is an over the counter colic treatment which is safe for babies from birth - just one drop before a feed helps neutralise the acids in their stomachs and eases out the gas...

we used this for our DS who had terrible wind / colic from weeks 3-6

poor you mower. Had the same with 7 week old ds. Has been plagued by wind, struggles to pass it then screams when he does. The noises that come out of such a little bum have stunned me! Has been some improvement over last week since I started swaddling him though. Previous to swaddling he would wake up at least every hour as the wind would cause him to flail his arms and legs and he would inevitably hit himself and wake up. Since swaddling he still has wind but doesn't wake himself. You can see his little body wriggling when needing to pass wind but the swaddling usually stops him waking up. Hasnt solved the wind problem but him getting more sleep seems to have made him a lot happier. He was a miserable little soul before, now he seems quite happy most of the time. Not a miracle cure am afraid but would definitely advise it if not already doing it-get a miracle blanket off the web-best 15 pounds I have ever spent. You can't put a price on getting more sleep! Good luck.
