How long will this sore throat last...?

...I am fed up with it. It started on Sun evening and doesn't seem to be getting any better. I don't really have any other symptoms apart from feeling really tired, achey and crap ! I have to keep swallowing and I think there is some sort of mucous dripping down the back of my throat (vile I know) - unpleasant sensation and taste. Have been taking painkillers at 4 hourly intervals and it is only just keeping on top of the pain. Does anyone know how long these things normally last ? I am supposed to be going to a wedding this weekend and have to pack and everything, and just feel like crawling into bed... Help meeeeee...

If you've still got it then take yourself to doc. And if he tells you it's viral then point out to him that the BMJ says the only way he can tell is to give you antibiotics and see if it gets better. Hope you're ok for the weekend.
