DD2 (16mths) has just vomited her breakfast. we've just giving her water and i've sent DH out to get some ribena.

but what food can i give her for the rest of the day?? obviously not much dairy even though she loves her milk.

i'm thinking bread, sweet potato mash, chicken casserole, pea & swtcorn rissotto etc... anymore ideas??

she also has a chesty cough and is generally subdued.

TBH I would just carry on as normal, let her take as much or as little as she wants. Make sure she takes plenty of fluids. Sounds like she is all choked up so it might not be a stomach bug. Poor little thing, my DS is also 16months and has a stinking cold. Have you got a humidfier for her room?

she had a serious attack of croup a couple of nights ago. dont have a humidifer unfortunately but will try and find one today.

thats what i'm thinking - just let her take it at her own pace. how about smoothies??? fruit based ones and make them very watery??

unfortunately we've got lots of errands to run today and will need to take her out. do u think we should take her out in this cold weather??

Unless she is really unwell yes I would take her out with you. A blast of fresh air will probably help. Maybe consider giving her some calpol or at least take some with you. Make sure she's nice and comfy inher pushchair and hopefully she will sleep.

If it was me I really wouldn't make anything special just let her snack at her own pace today rather than big heavy meals.

I hope she's ok and you get all your errands done. It's horrible when they are unwell isn't it?

fortunately everyone likes smoothies in the house

i really do hate it when they are ill. they just look so small and helpless ...

Ribena vomit doesn't sound pleasant.

A bit late I'm afraid - but why Ribena? I suggest something carbohydrate-y once they start feeling like eating. Pasta cooked with half a chicken stock cube is traditional in my family of origin and therefore with my children. But nothing al all until they actually ask for food. And plenty of sips of water. They don't need extra sugar and so on unless they've been sick a LOT. Unless you think they deserve a bit of a treat - in which case flat lemonade is traditional!

What about the brat diet:
Bananas, Rice, Apple (stewed), Toast. This is in the Annabel Karmel book as paediatrician recommended foods for children which help settle the stomach.

If she has runs too, then dilute the milk down
to half water with it or cut it out altogether. Dairy is not good.

Flat lemonade is absolutely the best to drink. Will give her a slight boost with the sugars but wont make her sick necessarily.
Think Ribena is too rich just yet.

Mine love to get croup and terrify me.. the best for an attack of this is shut yourselves in the bathroom, sit on the floor with her and turn the shower on to hottest setting an steam the place out! (Actually quite nice) It usually works a dream. If it doesnt tho' after a little while call an Ambulance if she is still struggling to breathe. (Sorry if I am telling you what you already know Autumnlover)

Dry toast, chicken noodle soup, packet or homemade if you can. (Boil up a chicken leg with a chopped up carrot, onion, potato and a bit cabbage in very small pieces like minestrone simmer for 45mins to hour. little bits of pasta in in the last 10 mins.)
We had this last week !
Hope she is better soon
