Broken ankle - pain worsening, what to do?

3.5 weeks ago I broke the talus bone in my ankle. I've cleanly sheared off the head of it and was given the option of a boot or plaster.
I opted for a boot so (as advised) I can gently move the foot to keep the muscles going. I need to heal quickly / properly as off to Florida in 9 weeks.
I haven't had time off as I've had professional exams (and revision courses). I went back to work this week, just a desk job, and the pain is just getting worse.
Should I be sitting with it raised? Should I be off sick? Should I ring my GP? I was discharged by fracture clinic as they are happy for me to wear a boot for mobility/ day and then go boot free after 5 weeks but still use crutches.

I'm a little worried.

I would call the NHS line (101? can't remember!) and have a quick chat with them or maybe your GP... even give the fracture clinic a quick buzz to see if they can give you some advice.

DH thinks I should go back, but I feel like an attention seeker because it's quite a simple break, so should be trouble free.
I wonder if this is perfectly normal and I'm just a wimp

Maybe the fracture clinic is best, they are the experts! I just need to know it's normal and what I'm doing is right.
I'm having to take strong co codamol for the painSad

Rang fracture clinic and have had a kind scolding from a senior nurse.
Apparently the injury I have is very serious and I must rest and elevate it. She was shocked that I was at work and it could take a year for full mobility! Shock

Ordered me to rest and get signed off, and ring back if it's still hurting in 2 weeks time.

I'm home now, foot up and a 3 week sick note in my bag Blush

aww hope you're doing the necessary resting!! sounds a bit boring being cooped up but maybe you can use the time productively! :)

I'm bored at the thought of just sitting, but I've found a book I started 2 years ago and a few things I've recorded, I ought to enjoy the peace really!!
It's still really painful and I've realised that weight bearing is making it sore, so I'm using the crutches to bear most of it now.
Rang the holiday insurance and my ankle is now covered, without much financial penalty Smile

poor you, breaking any limb or part of is no fun, i can sympathise!!

i guess you have to make what you can of the time...

luckily I work from home so wouldn't be as hard for me to keep up with work etc, but if I lost use of an arm (have done before) that would write my career off for a bit! touching wood right now...!

hate being stuck in though, so hard, and just moving about the house without normal movement...nightmare!!

that said if you keep it up and be good you will be much better soon

dose up on calcium and vitamin d (and zinc i think?) every day as they all promote bone growth and healing.

enjoy your books :)

Oh yes, hadn't thought of a calcium supplement. I'll send someone out for it. Daft, as I've just given DS his multivitamin and calcium chewy tablet Grin
I take a multi vitamin so probably have the zinc covered. I must say, it feels better for not weight bearing,, can't believe I was so stupid, but I felt guilty because I could get to work so didn't think I could justify being off.

I even have volunteers to take DS on some days, I need to use them, silly not to.
Being well for Florida has to be my goal, luckily I have that to focus on.... And I can use my Next App to do clothes shopping Grin

How did you break it? I watched someone fracture dislocate their ankle a couple of weeks ago and it was fairly dramatic! Can't believe you've not been resting and elevating it, no wonder it's bloody sore!!
Hope it continues to improve OP, every now and then, you have to look after number 1!

It was pathetic, just stepped off the decking on to an uneven bit of lawn, DS (6) was hanging off the opposite arm, went over on the ankle and I heard the crack.
I went gown like a premiership footballer Grin
Testing now, feels odd but I'm finally accepting that I can't really do much at all now.
I'm really noticing the pain when I do get up, I must have been running on adrenaline while I was doing my exams.
