2 year old ds had a high fever for three days last week and then it went away - he felt ill and floppy but no other symptoms. Had him checked out by doc, who though it was a virus. then last night his temperature just shot up out of the blue - again no other symptoms, but very floppy and cranky - given him calpol and now its down to 37.6 and he's fallen asleep but terrified of it shooting up again. Anyone else,s children had anything like this recently? Mystery viruses with high fevers going round? Bit worried.

as long as its coming down with paracetomal / nurofen I wouldn't worry unduly .. there are a number of nasty viruses around as season's change and a toddler will normally react with a high temp as he fights it

if his temp doesn't come down then seek medical help .. I had this with DD at 18 months .. tried stripping off nurofen and paracetomal .. turned out she had pneumonia

no she was too little .. but her temp didn't come down with stripping off or medicine after about 4 hours we went to A&E cos it was 40 and she'd had a febrile convulsion 3 days before .. they x-rayed her

As long as it COMES DOWN with nurofen / paracetomal don't worry too much

have they done urine sample, ruty? ds had unexplained high temp that was caused by urine infection and he was so wiped out by it.

hope you have a peaceful night and he's on the mend soon.

thanks mcwitch - we sent off a urine sample today to the hospital, might have to wait a few days for result. He is totally wiped out, and struggling to keep the temperature down he onl yjust recovered from the last bout, so the poor little boy is really suffering.
