Experience of Endometrial Ablation and Colposcopy after abnormal smear with HPV

I posted a rambling thread in health yesterday lol but I didn't really ask what I was looking for.

I am due to have an endometrial ablation and a colposcopy. The gynae wants to do the ablation first and the colposcopy 4 weeks later when my poor bits have recovered. I asked for it to be the other way round but his opinion is that they need to deal with the heavy bleeding and once that is done, the colposcopy can happen.

I asked for a smear as I've had some unusual bleeding and I had a feeling something was wrong (some odd pain etc). They also did a trans vaginal scan. Is the HPV an issue for former partners? I mentioned this to a friend and she said I should tell any exes but I can't really see the point as it seems to be a common virus?

HPV is a very common virus. I believe that nearly everyone that has had un-protected sex or any form of sexual contact will be exposed. Most people will clear the virus. Many will be re-infected by a new partner. I suspect every woman that has had the HPV vaccination must carry it, although I'm not 100% sure. (I'm assuming that the vaccine contains HPV to enable the production of antibodies).

I don't see any point in telling ex-partners that they might be HPV+.

Thanks patsy, that's the way the doctor explained it to me. Basically you get it, and most people who are sexually active do, but in most people you fight it off and it goes (like a normal virus).
