Gynaecologist recommendations - possible hysterectomy

Hi - last year I had an endometrial ablation for heavy periods. It seemed successful at first but 8 months later although it has stopped my periods it has caused me more problems - horrendous pain being one of them. The gynae who did it says I'll have to have a hysterectomy! Not something I'd planned as I've already had mastectomy for breast cancer and thought I was done with surgery. I've lost a bit of confidence with the gynae who did it - certainly wasn't given all the facts before and don't feel I'm getting a proper explanation now for what's happened (looks like I'm still having period but blood is unable to escape due to scarring and so backing up causing adenomyosis / endometriosis type problems). I need to get this sorted quickly as will just continue to get worse each month but I don't want to be rushed into surgery with someone I'm no longer confident with - I'd be terrified! Also want to be sure there isn't another option. Does anyone have any gynae consultant / surgeons they would recommend - London / Surrey area. Also I have been advised to take zoladex injections for this until it can be sorted. Anyone have any experience with that? Thanks

I had a hysterectomy and saw Mr Edmonds - prior to the operation, I had undergone another procedure and previously seen a number of less experienced staff and had a really awful time (which resulted in me spending time in ICU, a formal complaint being made and at least one of the Drs being moved on!) so to be honest, I was more than fed up!

Anyway, Mr Edmunds was beyond fantastic, empathetic, patient, friendly, v knowledgeable (I was diagnosed with something that only he recognised - it was v rare). Anyway, I would highly recommend him.

I'm sorry you've had such a tough time.

Chantenay - thanks for the prompt reply and recommendation. I'll definitely look him up - didn't want to just pick someone randomly for something so important. You've clearly had a very tough time too! Sadly there are some incompetent people out there who can definitely do more harm than good! Hope things are improving for you now.

Honestly, he was amazing but you're right to get some recommendations and have a look round before choosing someone to help you. It is incredibly important and more so bearing in mind what you've already been through.

I'm fine now thank you - in my case the hysterectomy sorted the physical issues out. I hope you manage to get the help you need.

Craig Leach. Very easy to relate, listens and good.

Thanks Chantenay for the supportive words as well as the recommendation. Good to hear hysterectomy has sorted out your problems and doing well now.
Juggling - thanks, I have written your recommendation down now too and will also look up.
At least I now feel I'm doing something positive and have somewhere to start. Pleased I posted.

I can't recommend anyone because I had mine done in Scotland but my ablation failed. It failed within 10 days of the surgery and 12 months later I had a hysterectomy. Best thing I ever did.
