Contraception- which one to lighten periods?

I need to arrange contraception and I'm hoping you can share your experiences. I have read about all the different types and lots of them say they may lighten your periods, did any of you find this was true and if so what do you use?

I have the mirena coil (well I do when I'm not ttc ) and I love it, though it doesn't suit everyone. I am one of the lucky people for whom it stops periods altogether (and most pmt symptoms).

mirena coil-- bleeding /spotting at first....then after 6months..virtually no periods at all...and no PMT either !and you can forget about it for 5 years...suits me perfectly!

Do a search on the Mirena coil threads and please take the time to read them.

The combined Pill lightened mine b/c it supresses ovulation and the growth of the uterine lining.

Thanks for your responses, I searched threads about the mirena and they have scared me off
Is the combined pill the one you can or can't take whilst breastfeeding?

combined pill
you hardly know you've got them.
i went from super plus tampons, 3 days in bed and iron tablets to regular tampons and my life back.

Does that mean pmt, bloating, general weight gain, depressed feeling mid cycle etc are reduced too?

you've gotta find the right combined pill for you as there are tones. Was on microgrinin or however you spell it and made PMT million times worse. Was then on dianette as it helps your skin too but not on any now as not long since had DD. Found the dianette did help lessen periods but PMT still there, could just know it was that instead of thinking I'd lost the plot and not realising what it was!
