Hi mums, just wanted to share my experience with the copper coil as I did a lot of research before I decided to have this and to be honest all I found was quite negative experiences.
I'm 26 and have two children my youngest is almost 3. I'm very sensitive to hormones and have tried almost every pill available and the depo injection was vile, it made my hair fall out I lost over a stone and I became a suicidal devil woman!! Anyway i stopped the depo a year ago and let my body return to normal.
I had my copper iud fitted 2 days ago so thought I'd share my experience. I previously had a copper coil fitted a few years ago and the whole experience was horrendous I had to have it removed after two weeks because it was so painful I couldn't walk, turns out the doctor didn't fit it correctly!!
This time the doctor was fab, il admit it was uncomfortable and was a little painful but as soon as she finished I felt so much better.
That evening I had cramping and some bleeding but nothing that I'm not used to. The next day I had NO cramps whatsoever all I had was a full ache in the right side of my back which I stuck a heat pad on. Today I've woken up with no bleeding and absolutely no pain! Feels just like I did before it was fitted!
I understand that it can make periods more painful and heavier but I shall let you know when af arrives :-)
Also it lasts 10 years, winner!!!
So please if you are considering the coil give it a go it may work for you just don't be put off by all the negative stories because for some women it really is a god send x

I love mine too. Also didn't want hormones as I'm v sensitive to them and couldn't be bothered with spots and weight gain. It's obviously a very individual thing, but my copper coil suits me very well, and I don't think about it at all. (Although the doctor told me it lasted 5 years, I think?)

Oh the spots were awful with the depo, it's nice to not be pumping myself full of hormones. Yes some iud only last 5 years but I asked my doctor for the 10 year just because I'm at college and want to start my career which will take more than 5 years haha, it's such a weight off my shoulders knowing that for the next 10 years I don't have to worry. I love it!

I agree it's fab. Had mine fitted after DD was born, it's so easy. Slightly heavier & more painful periods but worth it for not having to worry about taking a pill and no chemicals in body.
