My fanjo has collapsed (way TMI), any advice?

Latest (large) DC is 2 months and I'm realising that things are not going back to normal. No continence issues, thankfully, but my back passage keeps sticking into my fanjo (is this a rectocele?). When I need a poo it all gets stuck, and unless I keep things virtually liquid with loads of dried fruit, the only way I can go is by pushing it back from inside. It's horrible and even then it doesn't all come out. I am so uncomfortable and terrified I will be like this forever. There is no way I could have sex.

Does anyone know what the likely options are? I heard surgery is a bit grim, any experience of this or non-surgical ways to improve?
Advice appreciated.

I had something not dissimilar with ds1, I took the very wise decision to not seek any medical advice and it did sort itself out - after a year!!!!! It was a nightmare. I was too embarrassed to go to the docs. I would therefore strongly recommend going to the doctors - did you mention it at your 6 week check our did you smile and say "all fine!" when asked?! These health professionals are too easy to fob off aren't they?!

Can't offer info on what docs will suggest but just give you the bleak alternative of a year of poo trouble!! Good luck Smile

Ah yes, I said all fine.... Thinking it was bound to get better if I ignored the issue :o

But yours did fix itself eventually? Did you do lots of pelvic floor stuff?

Hmm I'd go see the GP. Wouldn't want it to get worse. They see more embarrassing things every day honest.

I have a small rectocele and a larger cystocele after DC2. They are both getting much better now 8 months on. I went to GP but was told to see how it goes because none of the treatment options are very appealing for younger women. I sometimes think I'd like a third child but not sure my foof will survive Hmm

Yes I did lots of pelvic floor stuff, ate lots of fruit and drank loads of water, used anusol cream, tried pretty much everything. It wasn't worth being in pain for a year though. And mine might not have been as bad as yours or might not have been the same cause at all, so no guarantee it would fix in a year!

Sounds like a rectocele, you need to see your gp.

Please don't be ashamed, it's very common. I have the same problem and my dses are 10 and nearly 12!

Think my problems are related to forceps delivery and then a radical hysterectomy when ds2 was 15 months. I have had one corrective surgery and have made the choice not to have rectocele surgery any time soon for various reasons.

You should see your gp and take it from there. They may refer you to gynae or physio.

There are lots of threads on here about women with similar problems, it's so comforting to realise you aren't alone. Such a shame no one in real life ever talks about these things.

I thought I had a rectocele recently. Identical symptoms. GP prescribed Movicol and it worked a treat. GP thinks my bowel had become lazy and I had a bit of a back log ( if you'll pardon the pun).
Still worth getting it checked out.

Ok ok it sounds like I need to go to the GP. I won't be able to get an appointment for about 3 weeks so at least it will give me time to pluck up courage...

Thing is, when you have an embarrassing problem you think oh, they will have seen much worse. I am now starting to think I am other peoples' much worse iyswim. Definitely at the icky end of the scale anyway!

Thanks for your advice, if anyone else has experience of what different treatments might be please let me know

I had a rectocele following forceps delivery but it didn't become really problematic till 8 years later, I had surgery which was straightforward (but isn't for everyone).

At 2 months post partum you've got a lot of healing still to do, and things are very likely to improve over the next year, but you can help yourself with pelvic floor exercises and lifestyle changes such as avoiding high impact exercise, heavy lifting, heavy pushing and pulling etc. Also using good manual handlibg technique when you are lifting things. Also avoiding strong core exercises such as crunches. There's a great closed group on FB called Pelvic Organ Prolapse Support full of brilliant advice and info.

Thanks for the advice. No problem to avoid crunches :o

I am about 2 stone overweight and was hoping to get back into some sort of shape, but I guess I will have to stick to walking rather than running at the moment.
