vaginal scan during period

Have just got apt through for an internal scan. Have been waiting a while for it but the day it's on is the day my period it due (typical!). The blurb says you have it done whether you have your period or not, but I have one really heavy day period wise a month where I can get flooding. The thought of a scan if that is the day is rather erksome.

Letter says you can't change apt apart from extreme circumstances so I don't want to change it (and indeed want it done) so I guess I'm just checking this is OK and will they be appalled if I'm having a heavy period day and it all gets really messy? I'm feeling mortified at the thought already Blush

It will be fine. I've had several vaginal scans whilst bleeding. Just tell them you are bleeding heavily when you go in and they'll put an inco underneath you. Don't worry.

don't they mind? It must be pretty yucky for them? I guess at least they won't have to use the lube

To make you feel better, I once came on an extremely heavy period whilst I was having a massage. Whilst she was doing back of my thighs. Hideous. However she just popped a towel over me and carried on!!

I worked in an ultrasound department for a while and they wouldn't bat an eyelid Smile Just tell them you're bleeding and slip things down when you're on the couch. The scan doesn't take very long so you're not likely to flood the bed, promise.

I don't care know if they mind. If they do they need a new job!

Also, I work closely with bodily fluids... After a while it's just all a bit meh. Couldn't care less.

My scan lasted half an hour, so glad I wasn't on at the time. Next time however.......Blush

I've had this, they didn't mind at all, they did a vaginal scan no problem but I had to go back for smear. They gave a date 3 weeks away and I said I'd already have my period again by then (horrible short cycle) and could I come sooner - they weren't convinced but gave a slightly earlier date. When I went for the smear they said they could see my period was about to start, just matter of fact, no squeamishness.
If it makes you feel better have some baby wipes with you to use just before the scan.

Thanks raspberry . I'm really intrigued how they see your period is about to start!

Oh Reastie, when she said that I thought she meant the floodgates would open there and then and drench us all Wink . I think it was the following morning. Not sure what they could see but between other appointments in the same clinic they said I had ovulated and pointed out on the screen where the egg was in the tube, maybe they just like giving the running commentary to keep the patients' mind off the procedures...hope your scan goes well.
