Calamine lotion on chicken pox

Ds (3.5) is refusing to have calamine lotion on his chicken pox spots. Do I leave it or make him? We've already had two huge tantrums since I got back from work and I'm on my own with him and ds2 (11mths) so would find it difficult to pin him down, but do you think calamine lotion would make a big difference. If yes I can ask one of the neighbours to help!!

depends really....it can be soothing but when it dries it can make the skin and pox feel tight and more itchy. When my dd1 had chpx I didn't bother with it, piriton is good for relieving the skin.

Great. I can do without another tantrum and I'm sure he could too! Will see how he gets on and might try piriton if it gets really bad.

We found tepid baths with bicarb of soda effective at soothing and drying them up plus Piriton.

Benydryl is much much better than calamine. Also, give him piriton. That should help.

Not got any piriton in so as you all seem to be recommending it might get some from pharmacist tomorrow. Is it def OK for 3.5 yrs or do they do a special one for infants?

I thhink Aloe vera cream is supposed to be good.

But I used calamine aquesous cream when mine had it. Its eaasy to apply than calamine lotion
