Biliary colic??

Had an episode of severe abdominal pain this afternoon. It came on fairly quickly - about 10 mins. And lasted about 50 mins in total. It was in the area above my belly button and below my boobs and was constant.
I was in agony and couldn't get comfy at all. Ended up on my knees, rocking and deep breathing. Dp thought I was going to give birth again!
I felt bloated at first and had just drank some fizzy water, so thought it was wind.
Eventually the pain just very quickly subsided and I've been fine since, but I haven't eaten anything - I'm too scared to.
I had eaten a small portion of chips and a cornetto about an hour before, and I'm now wondering if it was biliary colic.
If it was, would I be ok to have a slice of dry granary toast with some baked beans?
Can't decide if I should see GP or not. If it happens again I will, but I hope I never feel that pain again.

Sounds very much like biliary colic due to gallstones. I speak from experience, I'm afraid.

It is a symptom of gallstones I'm afraid, I've had 7 "attacks" in 5 weeks and am having my gallbladder out (after a scan showing more than 10 gallstones!!) in 3 weeks - if you have anymore attacks, then please go to your gp, ask for a scan and then (if gallstones found) ask for a consultation through nhs choices, choose and book - I've had fab service through them. Good luck.

Guess this could be the wake up call I need to eat more healthily. I really need to loose weight. I'm going to be watching what I eat now.
I'm worried i'll get another attack when I've got to pick kids up from school or something.
I could barely talk when it was bad earlier let alone do anything else.
Still afraid to eat anything. Will have a little something for breakfast in the morning and see how I go after that.

Lay off anything fatty and rich, would be my advice. However, it may be that even if you do eat healthily and lose weight you might still need to have your gallbladder out.

Thank you. Any suggestions for painkillers I can get over the counter in case it happens again?

Co-codamol. Before I had my gall bladder removed, the GP prescribed me some pretty heavy duty painkillers, can't remember their name though. But they left me struggling to function, which wasn't great when I had DS who was 1 at the time....

Sounds like it, I've had 5 attacks within 2 months, it's awful. Haven't had an attack since April but always afraid it will happen again. Had a baby in January and can't believe how common it's been among women. Loads of my friends have had this! Taken co codamol, soluble was best for me.

snozzlemaid - I suffer with this too and it's pretty rotten. I have been prescribed naproxen for the pain and that works really well (you can buy this OTC as Feminax Ultra), but it's not something I'd want to take too often.

Thanks. I've had no bad pain since, but I have been eating low fat and nothing too rich.
But today I've felt really bloated. I was at work this morning when my stomach started feeling uncomfortable and I was so scared that pain was coming back again. I worry about being in that much pain in public.
Thankfully though its just bloated and not painful.

Sorry you've been in pain. I would go to GP if I were you.

I had 4 similar episodes, saw the GP during the 5th. It was biliary colic, but as a stone was stuck, it led to pancreatitis and a week in hospital.

Had my gallbladder removed 4 weeks ago with no complications - wish I had seen doc sooner.

Hope you get on ok, could be any number of things, but I think it's a good idea to get it checked out.
