Ds has been poorly with this, spots appeared on Tuesday morning. Yesterday I came over all feverish, couldn't get warm, aching all over etc etc, have had a bad sore throat too. Just had a look and appear to have spots in the back of my mouth now, but nothing on hands/feet. How contagious will I be? I have tickets for a concert I'm desperate to o to tomorrow night and do feel better in myself today..advice please Smile

My husband had this last month and was told he is contagious 3 days after the spots disappear. I wouldn't go to a concert but check with your doctor

No, you shouldn't go to do the pick-up, or go out at all if you can help it. You'll be contagious until a few days after the spots disappear, so try to avoid people until then.

I'm sorry about your concert. This type of thing always seems to happen at the worst possible time!

If you do have to go out (as an adult you don't always have a choice!), then just take normal precautions. The concert would probably be a bit unreasonable to go to though

DS had hand, foot and mouth, whilst living with us and Grandparents (co-sleeping with DP and I) and none of the adults caught it, so I suspect that you were unlucky, and a lot of adults are already immune (or it's hard to catch).

But some people aren't immune, and it's unsafe to assume that they are.

I'm one of them. No immune system. Can't have vaccinations due to severe health problems. Chicken pox lands me in intensive care, and I'm petrified of getting measles.

I've avoided hand, foot and mouth so far, but I have to stay away from anywhere that has it. Even my sisters had to stay off school when it went round.

It sucks, it really does, but it'd be totally unreasonable to go to a concert while you are contagious.

I didn't quarantine myself. No one else to do the school run, but I have zero social life. I thnk I'd cancel the concert sadly. I had a mouth full of painful ulcers, my friend had terrible hands. I was the first adult with it that our nurse had ever seen and there was nothing she could do but some sore mouth gel. Was an interesting, drooly few days Hmm
